Yes D VV they or some of them cannot even speak it so that it is understadable.

Have you heard some of the atc's, they also need a test, no disrespect to the audiable ones.

I think we owe it fellow aviators to start our own on-line course, right here.

I'm sure with everyone's input, we should cover most essentials.

"Eita gents, hoesit bra's, mina "Jola Bud' kageema to rank 29, unfortunately, only one customer, iss tuf. going anywhere roundabout, fast."

XXX, request radio check ..............XXXtwo on board, taxiing to holding point 29, circuits and landing.

It would be sad if some people at the CAA can't see the irony in this idea.

Perhaps this is intended for foreign pilots or something...maybe theyre still only thinking about this.

In the meantime I''ll polish up my English and put extra money aside for the exam.

I'll give "free" English lessons at FAFK on Saturdays in exchange for flights.

From reading the many complaints on AVCOM about foriegn pilots doing their PPL in our wonderful country, I am not surprised that this has happened. You can imagine the chaos that could be caused by a non english speaker doing circuts at FALA on a busy day.

German coast guard "Wat are you sinking about?"

Unfortunately its true fellow aviators. Its an ICAO requirement and is being enforced world-wide. Even ATPL pilots are refused if they do not pass the test. It has to do with Aviation safety - so that we can all understand each other! But who's going to do the testing in SA? No comment

Correct - not a SA CAA requirement but an ICAO project.

You will be certified to a proficiency level, and depending on that level will dictate how long that certificate is valid for. The level 1 is valid for ever, level 2 requires retesting every x years, level 3 every y years etc.

The availability of examiners is where the problem is going to arise. The examiner requires some post degree qualification in English. These candidates are then required to become certified to do the test.

So what level of preficiency would count?

Considering that radio tx are usually short, use jargon or preset phrases. So I doubt you will have to be able to recite Shakespear.

Maybe just recognition of basic phrases like "left downwind, turning finals, unidentified aircraft lining up state your intentions, going around to aviod collision, You bastard, I'll get you for this"

Does this extend to all holder of radio license? If its an ICAO ruling would imagine all radio operators must do the check...

Would a matric certificate from an English School with English as first language not be sufficient?
