New exam and training rules - CAA

There is a notification at a flying school in WC stating that CAA is going to implement the following as from May 2007:

a. All student training only to be done at the clubs own registered airfield, no satelite airfields allowed anymore.
b. Exams (Met, airlaw, principles, etc.) to be written at CAA test facility under CAA supervision only, not at own club anymore.

If anyone knows more, please comment, this affects some of my friends.

Have not heard anything but tabove point sounds good as I have heard of too many stories of guys taking exams home etc..

But I would not worry yet - if its on the cards it will probably take years to implement :wink:

Look at the CAA website,

They have posted an updated Part 61. Very confusing. They now call an MPL a Multi Pilot Licence not a Microlight Pilot Licence

61.01.9 talks about the maintenance of competancy. It says we have to be tested by a Grade I or II instructor every 24 months.

However 5 (a) is really interesting.

"the person who conducted the revalidation check shall enter outcome of a successful revalidation check in a pilot's logbook and sign it accordingly."

So they can stamp the book and away you go. No waiting for CAA anymore 8)

Part 61 would be very interesting - that is the PPL CPL section :wink:

You need to look at Part 62 for the NPL/RPL or whatever they intend calling the new Micro licence. (NPL-National Pilot Licence, RPL-Recreational Pilot Licence)

Well done CAA

It's about time that everyone write the exams with them

Ok I always type before I think.

This will not be a problem with the schools in JHB and CPT.

Why don't Caa require all schools to have a CAA approved Data base at each school.

The problem is what I have seen in my years of flying is the way some schools/instructors allow the students to write the exams.

They take it home or write with all their books next to them to use.

My intent is not to sell any product or advertise our company on this forum but i feel the following is important taking in consideration the comments made on this forum and avcom wrt to the current exam system at CAA.

We have developed the total SAAF curriculum for the training of SAAF pilots into computer based training and is currently busy with an upgrade over the last 3 years. This product is the largest of it kind in the world and used by the BAE System and Flight Training Australia. Subsequently we also developed the ATC CBT (tower and approach) for ATNS. In total we have close to 600-700 hours of CBT - PPL, CPL and ATC

Each lesson has PowerPoint slides for normal instruction should the instructor prefer not using CBT. Associated with each lesson are also notes/manuals.

The system is internet ready and perfect to use for distance learning or at a school with the necessary user management, stats an reports.

The learning management system also developed by us and implemented through out the SAAF, ATNS and internationally is the host of all the above mentioned.

Part of the system is an examination system which is similar to that of CAA.

The advantage of the system is that all questions have traceability, may it be to learning content (CBT), classroom presentation slides and manuals.

WHY AM I MENTIONING THIS...

We demonstrated the system to CAA three-four years ago as a solution to the exam problems that exist and a key solution with the necessary content. .... I would not like to comment any further but we are still awaiting feedback and possible tender by CAA !! ??

We planning to approach CAA in this regards again as we believe that this system can and will added value to aviation training industry in general with a proven track record and the ability to be published on the internet including the exam system.
