Has anyone had problems with this kit before.Or know of someone who had installed this kit on their Jabiru 80hp motor?

Chat to the guys at SFT (www.pilots.co.za). They run the economy kit in most of their 80hp Jabbis. Pretty much works as advertised. Most of the planes make 2000hour TBO without any major engine work. Two of them need to be watched - they will overheat if run full throttle for too long - but just watch the guages, and you will be fine.

Jabiru has released a newer kit that runs slightly richer to address the overheating problems at high altitude.

I have done about 17hrs with this kit installed and 10,5 L/Hr at 95kts(2950rpm) all temps and pressures are perfectly normal.Installed a EGT to be safe.720Deg.C at cruise and 630Deg.C at full power, perfect!

Hi

What does the kit do, and what does it take to install? Does it effect power? Cost?

LM
do: Reduce fuel consumption in the cruise to 10-12l/h.

install: Professional installation only - a port needs to be precision machined as part of the process. Other than that, it is just a new set of needles and jets.

power: No effect at all.

cost: No idea...

Jabiru economy kit

Postby jabirusk » Wed Mar 28, 2007 12:34 pm

Here is the 'low down.'
I installed the kit myself, no rocket science at all.Took me one hour from start to finish.I'm not a mechanic but know the sharp end from the handle end of a screwdriver.....!!
Kit consists of a new needle (totally different taper!) new needle jet, main jet and idle air jet.The idle air passage needs to be drilled out to 1,6mm, drill bit supplied. Idle air screw needs adjustment.I found no difference in power but a big difference in cruise economy.Came down from 12,5 Litres/hour to 10,5.Jabiru Australia suggest to fit an EGT if you are doing this mod since the mixture is now a bit leaner, EGT is a bit higher but well within stated limits. Got my EGT from Solo Wings here in Pinetown, cost about R600,probe and meter. No 12v supply needed, works off heat generated by exhaust gases.Go to www.jabiru.net and on the left look at "Service Bulletins" then "Carby Tuning Kit JSL002-1"
I ordered mine from Len Alford in George for R650 door-to-door delivery the next day.
Call me for more details (083-456-8566)
