Now careful there Ian, with all this talk of heat, hot, Cream Buttermilk and Coffee...maybe we should nick name your plane Cremora! A Couple of good slogans they've got: "Lite and Creamy" Sounds good, matches your Savanah. Only Joking!!!
Or even: "It flies so nice - Cremora!...give me more ya! "

OK fellow Microlighters...

After the bashing I took in the previous posts (he he) I decided to take off to the Berg and S Coast 'going nowhere slowly' for a while.

Back at the grindstone progress is below...

Made a little 'spray booth' to take care of the little pieces....

Image

Glued in the firewall, real messy job with contact glue and plenty itching...
(the firewall is made of yellow fibreglass, similar to our think pink stuff for insulating roofs)

Image

Firewall completed together with the 'upholstery' glued into place.. Starting to look quite cosy !

Image

Clear coat sprayed the front fork and fitted the axle re-inforcers (suggested by a Dutch builder Joop, dont really want to loose the front wheel, it will damage the firewall) ..

Image

oh... Rudi, the Sav is not gonna be called Cremora ... its not on top...

Do you know what farfalla is ? Well that's the Italian name, but I'm gonna use the French translation ... any guesses ?

Cheers

Great shot Sir ! - spot on.. :D

No, Im not Italian, but this kit comes from Italy.. so I asked a friend for the Italian translation, but it doesnt sound right for something thats designed to fly in the bush..

An update:

Got the pedals installed..

Image

Fitted a thicker stainless steel plate on top of the front strut on recommendation of John Waterson, apparently the standard plate can bend if landing on very rough tracks (front strut doesn't have a shock absorber, just a thick ruber bungee)

Image

Next I'll tackle the controls..

Finally a 'test drive' using a 'seasonal control stick'

Image

Have a good Christmas, and drive/fly safely !

Last post for 2006, hopefully not posting this time next year as I should be flying ...

Installed a whole lotta stuff in the fueslage, things like the flapperon mixer along with the contol rods, elevator belcranks, strobe light box etc.

Image

Assembled the control stick and flap lever.

Image

Completed the windscreen, and then just had to mount the motor in 2006.

Hi Ian,

Looking very Good!

No bashing intended, just joking, responding to others posts..Did my 3 axis conversion on the one at Springs over the Xmas holiday. Nice little 'sporty' plane, enjoyed it, sure you will as well. The #2 notch of flaps suprised me, the runway fills up the whole windscreen bottom to top, that is how steep and slow she can come in.

Yep, I cannot wait, difficult to build to a standard while just wanting to be in the air, good lesson in discipline control..

I achieved what I set out to do this year end, got the rest of the aerie painted.

Below are the wings and struts after priming

Image

Below one of three trips to get all parts home again...

Image

Here the wings are hung again, waiting for Dynatrol to be sprayed inside them..

Image

Last is the rest of the flying surfaces awaiting re packing this weekend...

Image

So Rudi.. , plenty more Cremora now hey ... ! :D

Cheers ian

Sooo, now I'm in the last 20% which reputedly takes 80% of the time...

So, what is this filter doing below the seat ?

Image

At the beginning of the project I decided I needed fuel flow, so I chose the MGL maxi single which provides defferential fuel flow (subtracts the return line from the main line to provide actual)

Image

Renier (MGL) claims the sensor has to be far away from pumps etc that provide pulsating flows etc that add to inacuracies, so the only place to put the sensor is after the header tank (behind the seats) and before the pump in the engine bay.

But you need to add a filter befor the sensor (small bitties of dirt could end your day unhappily) , then to change the filter without emptying the tanks in the wings you need a fuel cock, so all of a sudden you have to add 160 gramms of weight...

The valve, note the safety wire, I dont think you want this to close on its own ... Only used when you change filters.

Image

Here's the whole lot on the bench while working out pipe lengths etc..

Image

The final installation beneath the pilot's seat. Still gotta secure the electrical wire.

Image

And all this takes time... but I guess you gotta do it right..

Oh, the filter is a good find, wer'e all using the MB diesel filter which is great but you cannot see through it, this filter is the Bosch equivalent (mesh filter) which is see through. Part number is 0 450 904 077 and costs around R18.

Hi Ian,

Looking good! Good find on the filter, looks like a good replacement for MB.
I'd like to get one and compare it to an old MB one that I'll cut open to compare...where did you buy it from, local Midas?

Thanks
Rudi

This one was bought from Diesel Electric in Wynberg (near Sandton)

Ian,

does this mean to have two fuel flow sensors? One on the inlet and one on the return line?
