Hi Guy's,
I have a 296 and it's really worth the money. The avmap looks grate as well but for a trike I still prefer the 296. No interference on my panel mounted Filser radio at all. But the radio antenne is not near the GPS of course.
In a 3-axis the Avmap might be my choice.
Don't forget if you want to use it on a trike that it is very important to have a dust and waterproof GPS. I don't think the Avmap is as rugged as the Garmin.
Just my opinion.

So far I am not impressed with the Lowrance that I bought. I find the use very counter-intuitive but that may be because I am used to a Garmin. On a flight last year I could not get the damned thing to work properly and eventually figured out that it had not automatically got a position fix. I had to fiddle through the menus to eventually find an option for the unit to 'find' itself but you had to put in an approximate position. Later I found the 'auto find' option which worked. The trouble was that the unit did not tell me what was wrong- I had to try all sorts of things to eventually figure it out; and it did not automatically find its position- something that I expect a GPS to do...
Another thing is that the ground maps are pathetic (air maps are pretty good though) so that unless you know the area you cannot really give an accurate position report.

A lone impulse of delight drove to this tumult in the skies...
Re: LOWRANCE AIRMAP GPS vs. GARMIN
I have been told by the suppliers that Lowrance does not make aviation GPS's any more!! So, rather get the Garmin. I have a Airmap 2000C and like the big screen and display, but cannot update the aviation map. You need to use the "Map Create" program to do that, and that program is not compatable with Windows 7. (actually, the card reader that comes with the program seems to be uncompatable with Windows 7) I would appreciate it if anyone can help me with an update.
