Once again I am going I need some advice.
Bellow is a picture of the panel of my new JK-05, the aircraft has pre-installed instrumentation from the factory, but I want to make a few changes.
Firstly, I am going to remove the Icom A110 base station and replace it with a Garmin SL40 Transceiver and a Garmin GTX 327 Transponder. I also want to panel mount my Garmin 296 GPS, which connects to the radio to provide nearby radio frequencies etc.
The problem is that when seated in the pilot’s seat you cannot reach the right side of the panel without sitting up and stretching across, and because I like to fiddle with my GPS while flying this does not seem like a great place to put it. Therefore I will be forced to move some of the other gauges around to make place for the GPS in the centre panel.
Because I am going to be moving things around, I thought I would ask all you aviation experts and others to give me some comments regarding “critical informationâ€Â
What should be where?
Please don’t be afraid to suggest an entire shuffle, I only want to do this once, and now is the time!
As always, thanks in advance:!:

check panel planner (huge bucks) or http://www.epanelbuilder.com/. My RV was to look like this until MGL boys relesed the Enigma and now I start again...

I see a lot of guys position the engine temps and fuel levels (i.e. all your center gauges) on the right hand side. This leaves the centre open for radio and gps. How often would you want to monitor them.
I would replace them all with an MGL Engine Management gauge (hobbs, 2 EGT, 2 CHT, oil Pressure and temps and RPM, and a FF3 fuel management gauge (2 Fuel Flow, 2 Fuel Level, plus predictive fuel usage etc.) Put both of these on the right panel, and wire in the alarm lamps. These put in the center so your eye is attracted to them. Now you have the gauges to look at but you also have a warning should any of the thresholds be exceeded. Then put your avionics and GPS on the centre panel.

Agree with Morph. Try to keep all items you need to touch close. Maybe get insert made which tilts towards left (pilot side) so the guages are facing you.

I know it's structure is different from yours, but you may get an idea or 2. The Garmin 296 sits on top where the compass normally sits... I checked it out on another Savannah and it hardly affects viz.

Howzit manne with money for new panel layouts...
Yip, I also think you should keep stuff you need to touch close!!
Thus, looking at a typical Cessna layout:
Left
RPM, Altimeter, DI, VOR, ILS, light switches, Fuses etc...
Middle
Your radio stack, gps, transponder etc
Right
Pressure & Temp. gauges etc.

Agree with the cessna layout. It has been tried and tested over many years. Flying instr in front of you. Radio stack, Nav aids etc in centre and engine and fuel gauges on the right.
