I thought so too but the 15 Sq Meter is 43 kg (93 lb) compared to the Stranger 15 at 48kg.Microwave wrote:never saw that. But now it sounds heavy :D

Topless
There are two in Knysna at Warren Rosewell's field one a double surface single seater and the other a dual seat version. Both of them are North Wing trikes - very fast and good finishes as with most imports. Both are brand new.
Both are owned by Tom who at 79 is not flying trikes regularly - most probably will sell them off as he has a share in a Cheetah and a new Rans Coyote

Not only does the wing rely on weight shift, but you rely heavily on the pendulum effect of the undercarriage for stability, and even if the wing is more rigid, the undercariage moves independently to allow for weight shift.Morpheus wrote:With this sort of design I wonder whether a fully symetrical wing is possible? Could make the trike aerobatic?
The trike can already do many aerobatic manuevres, although they are not designed for it, if executed properly, should not cause a break, but because you do not have rudders and aererons, you will never be able to do a hammer head stall, or a spin.
The wing also has wash-out, which means that the angle of attack at the root is more than at the wing-tips, so flying upside down is not a good idea, as it will become unstable.
Trikes also have quite a bit of dihedral, for stability, anhedral with a heavy undercariage above (as with upside down flight) would not be able to be sustained.

Re: Topless
All ML wings look the same to me, fine with minor diffs but what is the physical diff between double surface and single? I've seen vids of both, but they look the same? What am I missing? Double sounds like it should be twice as noticable.airbornex2001 wrote:There are two in Knysna at Warren Rosewell's field one a double surface single seater and the other a dual seat version. Double surface vs single surface
Double surface wings have the cross bar enclosed in between the top and bottem wing surfaces, these are faster wings due to less drag. Single surface wings have the crossbar exposed. Single surface wings are great for quick rigging and slow flight. The hangglider aerotow trikes are usually single surface due to the slower speeds they fly. The Northwing picture at the start of this thread is single surface.
Thanks for the reply
So I actually flew a dbl surface wing on Wednesday...the guys were comparing the two and I think I heard them say Aquilla2. Can't say I noticed much in terms of dynamics vs, with a whopping 4 hours who can
Pitty you sold your trike to the wrong person
, I wanted it
, with an Avg speed of 21km/h to work nowadays who needs a car

New Antares OPEN COUNTRY with SA Topless Wing STRATOS-15
Hi guys.
Soon we will be importing new Antares trike with a long-capacity tank and wide tyres it will go with our new topless wing Stratos-15.

We made some simple load tests of Stratos so far and of course test flights. It has been tested for -3G on the ground and +2.5G inflight and flies beautifully accroding to opinion of our test pilot Andy Kaspersen (Petit). We also installed one on a Raptor trike and it is flying in South Africa.

At the moment we busy to make another 4 wings so it will be possible for anybody to come and see it and may be try it out. You can have a look at some pics of the wing and the trike on our website http://www.aerossa.co.za
