and on a wx day there's always the av shop at Rand for the mag, then and with mates... so there's method in the madness, hey Oom Agent :D

There are hoooge happenings in the pipeline and I've been dying to share the news with you, so here goes.
Aero Club recently gave African Skies their blessing to approach all the different sections that fall under their auspices with a proposal to appoint African Skies as their official magazine, or at least to give their members the option of subscribing to African Skies if they so wish.
As a result, it gives me great pleasure to announce that, with effect from January, African Skies will be growing to a whopping 100 pages of content and a much larger print run, as we will be incorporating the EAA, AHASA and SAGPA as before, as well as welcoming MISASA on board!
In addition, SAHPA and many of the other sections of Aero Club have undertaken to provide us with coverage on all the ins and outs and whassups as far as their particular disciplines are concerned. We will also be addressing issues of particular concern to the Aero Club as a whole. Then it is only a matter of time before more of the other sections opt to join us rather than continuing to go it alone with mini-mags that are difficult to sustain. It makes good sense for us to have one really good magazine that addresses all the pertinent interests and concerns that apply to the NTCA market in general, with a really strong focus on the adventure, sport and recreational flying in particular. In view of these positive prospects, I am sure that all our suppliers will also do their best to give us more efficient service in order to keep our business, which means that, in turn, we will be able to improve our service delivery to the subscribers and advertisers!
As a result of all of these new developments I have consulted with all of the above aviation sections with regard to bringing out one consolidated end-of-year issue for 2006, which will be winging its way to subscribers and advertisers early next week, rather than having two issues coming out bumper-to-bumper. Then we will continue full throttle with the preparation for the first big issue of 2007, which is due out during the 4th week of January. Yes, I know this means that we will have published only 4 issues this year, but we will definitely have more contributors pulling together to bring you 6 bigger, better and even more beautiful African Skies during 2007.
Subscribers will not lose out, as all subscription periods will be adjusted on our records to cover an additional issue. I really do mean it when I say that African Skies belongs to you, the readers, so please keep those letters and contributions rolling in. We've needed a local magazine that focuses on this sector with true dedication and enthusiasm, so let's all give it a go and make it work across all 10 sections of Aero Club!

According to your brief I should have been consulted with to see if this is what I wanted. I am sure that this is merely an oversight that you and Aeroclub will sort out shortly.

Slick Willy, I have also replied to your other comments on the Avcom forum. For anyone who still does not understand, here goes:
The whole matter of whether a member of any section wishes to subscribe to African Skies or not is entirely voluntary - it has to be optional because some members are existing subscribers to the mag, others belong to the EAA and/or SAGPA and/or AHASA and/or MISASA or one of the other sections as well, and of course there will always be those who simply do not want to receive the mag, no matter what!!!
It is extremely difficult for each individual section of Aero Club to sustain the huge workload required to keep their own mini-mag going successfully year after year. Those sections that decide to appoint African Skies as their official magazine benefit from receiving a pro rata portion of the magazine for publishing their own content relating to their own aviation discipline and events, etc. as well as exposing newcomers to their activities and thereby stimulating fresh interest - and of course their own members benefit from receiving an excellent mag that covers a broad spectrum of anything and everything to do with sport and recreational flying. The mag itself benefits from increased readership and better prospects for potential advertising support. So it's a sensible win-win situation for everyone concerned, no matter where you fit into the picture.
I repeat - no one is having anything shoved down their throats!
As far as each section of Aero Club is concerned, they were represented at the board meetings, weren't they? Who then informs the members of the proceedings and outcomes?
BTW as far as the other aviation mags are concerned, African Skies is not stepping on any toes or encroaching on any territory. We address different markets and, whilst there may be some degree of cross-over, it is so marginal that it really does not make a ripple in the bigger scheme of things. We should all be proud of the superb quality publications that are produced locally and all the more power to their elbows!
Local publishing politics? It is one thing to be well informed and quite another to start playing political games - and I don't do that!

Trix, good luck with this new opportunity and well done for recognizing the gap out there, it was there for the taking. I/We know you will make a success of it.
I 've been following the thread on Avcom and am absolutely flabbergasted by the responses by some a$$holes (was going to say gentelman but then they couldn't possibly be ). If that is not perfect examples of envy/jealousy/stupidity/politics ?? by adults, how can we possibly teach our children differently and expect different behaviour. But then you must have expected some of these responses.
