Transponders – Which one to buy?

Postby Bumpy » Mon Nov 06, 2006 5:11 pm

Hi there all you aviation geniuses and the rest,

I am purchasing a new JK-05 and though it may be a good idea to put everything in it at once :!:

Therefore I would appreciate some advice on which brand of transponder is the most suitable for a part time aviation.

Thanks in advance
How do mosquitoes get this high?

Second hands on ebay are cheapest. I got a KT76 with encoder for R1500, but it takes a while to get here. The micro air's from Aus take lass space and are very good, but expensive... I would go for the Micro air if budget not tight. The Garmin and Filster (Sp?) are also nice...

Before the Dollar went west ballpark between R15K and R20K depending on type and encoder. Possibly more now. Check with Peter How @ composite.co.za (microair) or Karien at Century Avionics (garmin) for prices. ebay is far cheaper but there is risk and most of the local guys don't want to fit it for you if you don't buy from them?

PS
Garmin has an awesome new stack G900X for NTCA's. Don't know price locally though? In USA $65,000.00 (More than my whole plane)
