Gert

In your 30092006 log you say that you have no fairing on at the moment and DVE feels different. Handling wise does it feel better or worse? Ofcourse the toetsies are probably alot colder now:lol:

2006-10-19 to 200610-22 Springbok FLY-IN 14.5 hours flying!

Have a look at my log on http://www.zu-dve.com and like always I have experienced something you don't want to experience. If you (or any of the HVs) can spot the error of judgement, post your opinion and I will tell all. As I said before, I prefer to learn from others' mistakes, but am keen to share when I was the idiot. (look at the log) So give it a go....what did I do this time?!

All in all a nice weekend's flying, ended it with a Morningstar landing! The picture below tells that story - a south easter with a southerly component of 20km/h (landing on runway 20).

See http://www.zu-dve.com for picture log of the weekend.

Did you take off when it was still dark?
How the heck did you know where the next runway was, because it must still have been dark when you arrived there?
Or do I get it all wrong?

Another one of these puzzles.

First question, Why did you deviate south around the mountains from Van Rhynsdorp instead of just routing straight to Niewoudtville? unless of course there was early morning mist/clouds and you were trying to stay below this.

Bachuss, please note, Gert uses Zulu as the designator for time. This means the time represented is GMT and 2 hours earlier than CAT (Central African Time) This is the official time used for all flying and when you talk to an ATC you should use this. All Aviation weather uses the Zulu time as well so remember to add two hours.

Otherwise I can't see anything obvious

Tsk Tsk Morph I expect better from you. :) Look again.

Yes, we flew to van Rhyns, then routed until we could climb onto the escarpment. But thats not it. Beautiful flying. As they say, wish you were there.

Morph is right, for some reason  I am using Zulu time...

You got me

BTW who are you using to repair your fairing? Clive at Morning Star runs one of Cape Towns top plastic repair and respray businesses. He specialises in bike fairings but does other things as well. He repaired and resprayed all the various damaged bits on AUK for me. Very good and very reasonable. 8)

Yes, Morph got it. Was running a tad late. Was like that moth in "A bugs life" - Graham kept telling me (the person with colour blindness and night blindness) "follow the light, follow the light" and eventually I wanted to scream "but it's sooooooo beeeeeautiful".

Just added 20 pictures of the Springbok trip - see http://www.zu-dve.com and follow link via logs

Ah, and about the fairing - it cracked along the side, and since it is tension keeping it in place it needed a repair urgently, so I patched and painted myself - will have it done professionally later.
