It is 6kg lighter and I fixed all the little nicks and things. We sanded most of the old paint down to primer level. Then applied a thin layer of black to do the colour change without putting too much paint on. I did some fast taxi runs with the tail up and I find the rudder control less difficult than the Kitfox 3 because you sit behind the vertical turning point. The pitch  I'll say nothing about that now. Let me 1st fit my new prop    and shock test the engine and motor mount.

Funny enough I have never though about this until now, but how does one get converted onto a single seater like this, especially with unique flight characteristics?

Fly something similar and when the confidence levels are right take it up?

Pretty Much unless you can find a light instructor and a 2 seater... Couple hrs on similar, then briefing by type rated instructor and then circuits with him on radio "talking" you through it. Fill in forms and off to CAA.

So thanks to many friends I found a prop and it landed here on Airlink on Sunday. I took it in to an Engineering Works that drilled the holes and Machined the hub. Yesterday R855.00 later I collected the masterpiece and fitted it to Shreg. The Spinner that worked on the Bernhard J. Warnkey prop needed to be opened up to fit around the De Necker. So I spent yesterday afternoon and this morning doing that. After lots of grinding and sanding the spinner fitted fine and I was quite chaft with myself. I assembled the cowlings and could not wait to run the new configuration. With a flat battery and other person at the airfield I decided to take a rope and tie the tail down to the fence pole. I hand started the engine an ran around to adjust the RPM that was doing about 2000. The prop ran smooth and the edge lined up against the hanger door showed no miss alignment.

I climbed into the little plane to get the tail down firmly. With rope still on I opened the throttle gradually until it was running at full throttle. The rev counter indicated 3000 RPM on the dot and the it was like running on one magneto with a little vibration. Next thing the spinner came off, destroyed the prop and landed like glassfibre snow all over Phalaborwa.

I never liked spinners

So please if anyone know of a wood prop anti clockwise 52" X 47 let me know.

I really don't want to put my front wheel of my trike up to the hangar door and crank her up to full throttle and go thru the metal or flip her into the door. I taxi back to the start of the runway and full throttle with brakes on - once brakes stop gripping I let go and and go full out about 1/4 down the runway keeping the bar full in.

What is the best way? Cannot exactly tie a trike down from behind unless it is rigged like Tobie's tug...
