This is my take on it:
Old Ballies / pilots from the 80’s:
Micro’s was dangerous, first impression is lasting and hard to change. These pilots are the hardest to change.
Ballies/ Pilots for the 90’s
Micro’s getting better, more reliable, more inroads are made. These pilots have a 50/50 chance to recognise micro’s
Pilots post 2000
Micro’s are on par with regards to reliability, better engines etc. You still get the idiot or two that hurts us doing something stupid like not maintaining his trike or not to AP it, and then we are all pushed back to the 80’s era and reputation. A new or current 2000 pilot is open to debate and discussion, and will recognise us micro’s. You will see this on the web, but the old ballies, typically do not surf web, so you’ll wont get there opinion here.
It is all about education.
It is easy to take a stab at us in jest, because we came from an era of bad experiences and 'lunatics' with lawnmowers and deck chairs. They know it and typiclly we do not have a good comeback at this stage.
I use the cheap, more flying hours, more fun, comradery and flying by the seat of your pants make us better flyers comeback.

Rudi

Guys it is all about being bigger and better.
Even after trading my Kitfox and trusty Aquilla in for a C152, things have not changed. So this is definitely not about MPL vs PPL.
The okes with the bigger tin, still 'rip' me off.
One oke who owns a L39 jet here constantly rips me off - like being told that I should leave on the Friday to get there on the Saturday. It really does not bug me - it is all in jest.
Muy jest back is that my fuel to get there will cost me R500 - his in the L39 cost R10k. So who has had more fun per buck
Taking that further - my aerie is worth R300k - his R1.3m. He gets there in 20 minutes - me in 2 hours. So once again I have paid less to have more fun.

Agreed !!
Agreed !! But the one area where we trike pilots often shoot ourselves in the foot is the quality of our broadcasts. Not that they are not technically correct, but rather that the signal is often very poor, distorted or carries a cacophony of other sounds with it.Morph wrote:Well,
I have been through the entire posting on Avcom on this same subject and there are more positives there, than negatives here.
I believe that bliks are happy to share the sky / circuit with us - each party recognising the others “limitationsâ€Â, for example, the size and time taken in terms of their respective circuits.
Also the cost implications – when I see the drop plane wanting to line-up with a load of meat bombs at R 1,200+ per hour, I am very happy to do a little orbit and let him get on his way.
But we can’t defend a signal that goes like –
……….ind ………def ……….ase……..peop…….rout………free…….eft han…….
I know my signal is good for a Microlight and compares favourably with many bliks. I will be quite happy to assist anyone as necessary.
It is worth mentioning that only once did I come across a blik with really crappy signals – but the pilot’s response was “As long as I can hear ..†Oh well.
