I now need to do a test flight with a 'CAA-approved instructor' to prove that I can handle the trike

C205, does this mean you are going to have to repeat this process everytime you get your medical renewed? I would definately ask CAA it this is the case

Morpheus I hope not, but if that's what I have to do to fly, I will. Fortunately the medical's valid for three years.

Ok that's fine then. The first time I went for a medical in 2000 they discovered I had Hypertension, albeit fully under control and they only gave me a medical valid for 12 months. When I restarted my flying this year they gave me a medical, under the same pre-existing conditions, for 3 years under the doctors recommendation.

:D :D :D Hello Guys!

On top of the world this morning! Or was at least at about 7:30.
Managed to get my solo in at Flo's training field (and they were even able to re-use the aircraft again!)

What an amazing feeling. Following all the negative happenings over the week end I must admitt that I went out to the field feeling a little apprehensive this morning. Flo's jovial manner soon sorted that out and we were off for a short check ride.

Took to the skies without Flo's generous ballast in the back seat and was totally in awe of the climb rate. Despite the anticipation of this I was still pretty surprised. Pulled in on the bar and slowly came off the power with Flo's voice in the headset telling me to not be scared to climb. Reduced the power and still up we went, reduced it some more and still climbing like a homesick angel. Eventually straight and level at 4600 rpm and a healthy 51 mph on the clock.

First turn also had it's surprises - thing turns so much easier without the baggage (meant in a nice way Flo). Downwind was uneventfull and the approach less of a surprise than the take-off. I was a little worried about adjusting to the new sink out rate but found that this was reasonably easy to do - a lot less power to arrest the final sink out and landing as per normal.

I can only describe it as one of the bst feelings that I have ever had! If you are yet to solo - best of luck - and tell us your story!!

I remember my first solo in 2000, didn't expect the climb rate, I nearly coloured my undies. By the time I came in for finals my right foot was shaking with the adrenaline. I coudn't understand why the plane was jerking to the right (3-axis) until I realised and pushed my foot against the side to stop the shakes. What a day.

Many thanks - so good to share the good moments! I am training on a Windlass (Z127) at Centurion Flight Centre but have bought a Mainair Gemini Flash 2 Alpha with a Rotax 582 (which I will hopefully have the pleasure of flying in the future). Intend flying with the Rietfontein gang but seriously their junior in terms of experience (and age some of them ha ha! oops sorry Dm, G) At least able to match their spirit of adventure!

Good luck with your efforts - from your messages I take it that the only thing separating you from the brown stuff and blue sky is a little red tape. Give em hell.

:D :D Thanks Demon , Wart - I flew Flo's Z127 - figured that I would bend that undercarraige a little first and then move on to the other stuff. Also - knowing that Big G had a long time love affair with the Gemini I thought it best to let him get over it - or at least start accepting that one day I am going to fly it!

Never did quite get to congratulate you on your own acheivement!
As for the Rietfontein SkyBoys - I survived a few sessions of "swing low sweet chariot" at Dragon Peaks with them when they were on top form and recon that I can hold my own when it comes to that category- famous last words pehaps - time will tell - I am anticipating being called before the committee but not to concerned at this stage (they hide behind the wall every time that I am there out of fear of me taking my newly acquired "taxiing" skills out on them (with the exception of G, he is just worried that I will ding the aerie).
