Hirth Agents:

Marine & Bike
Warren James
2 Currie Street
P.O. Box 18433
Quigney
5211
East London
Eastern Cape
South Africa
Phone: ++27 43 722 3638
Fax: ++27 43 722 2364
e-mail: marinebike@weblink.co.za

I don't think the Tillotson is standard fitment on Hirth engines. It was a mod to allow inverted operation (pumper carbs) (I stand to be corrected though.... All I know of Hirth is that they're made in Germany). Could you post some info on reliability/failures/your opinion etc. on your engine?

Thanx I have left a message for Warren-

The Hirth is about the same physical size as a 503- It seems reliable
and starts evry time hot or cold- In the glider I only use it for about 10 min per flight to self launch- The motor has about 400 hrs on it
and as its 30 years old the seals and diaphames on the carbs are leaking a bit- Its inverted-I cant believe how a litle 600 cc 54 hp motor hauls a 21 m span glider up -I clime out @about 400 fpm at reef altitudes I will e mail Demon a pic and ask him to post it here- I have never worked out how to do it.

Its a self launching glider not a motor glider so I still need a wing runner and I cant taxi etc. but its a lot better than wating around for a tug and I can stay up if the thermals arnt around when its time to get home in the late afternoon :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Demon- only you would think of that but it doesnt work that way

The loger in self launch gliders has a microphone that picks up the enjine sound- When you look at the trace on SeeYou or Winpilot etc. the line is red while the motor is running and then goes green when you become a glider again- The logger is a sealed unit that you cant fidle with :? :( :(
