RAMP CHECKS!
Some guidance from Rowena Kraidy

Ramp inspections are always a fear by microlight and light sport aeroplane owners. This should not be the case. If you know what is required then having it available should not be a problem. So, here it goes....

Documents to have in your aircraft:
What I do is have a flip file with all the relevant documentation in. This looks neat and professional when the CAA inspector asks for your documentation instead of digging in a bag full of old expired papers.
Certificate of registration
Certificate of release to service: this can be in your flight folio or you can keep a copy in this flip file.
Mass and balance. Make sure the document has an empty weight and a CofG calculation for the empty aircraft. Less than 5 years old.
Current Authority to Fly
Current equipment list. Less than 5 years old.
Radio station licence.
Third party insurance cover
Aero Club membership
Map of the area
Certified copy of your licence if you don’t want to carry your original in the plane with you.

In the plane:

Medical aid kit and strips.
Medical aid kit requirements: Bag must be sealed and have an expiry date. I use a key tag to hold the two zippers together and the expiry date is on here.
Strips: I use two emergency blankets in the first aid kit. These can double up for emergency strips. If you cut the emergency blanket down the middle lengthwise you will have two strips of required length. A chart of signals must be included in the first aid kit.
Inspection reminder:
Date of next annual inspection
Hours of next service
Aircraft registration
Flight folio
Compass deviation card. Within 5 years.
Fire extinguisher. Just make sure it is in the green and that the inspection has not expired.

Inside the plane:
Magnetic compass
Make sure your seat belts work.
Fireproof data plate.

Outside the plane:
Fuel grade sticker
Fuel and oil leaks
Condition of windows (if applicable)
Secured cowlings (if applicable)
General good condition of aircraft
Aircraft placards as per POH
Correct sized registration markings

Follow these few steps and you will be fine at any ramp inspection.
