OK, Ok, I'm back. What a awesome weekend. Friday was my brothers birthday, and saturday was my dad's 60th. We surprised him. My mother booked out a lodge in Northern Zululand - for the weekend. She told my father about 2 onths ago, that she was taking him away - and said no more. He's been there 4/5 times, and loves it, my mother's been about 22 times - must say something about the place.
Anyway - they drove up on friday, about 4.5 hours from Debben, near Pongola. We had organised behind dad's back, and flew my lil sis back from college, aunt up from CPT, my brother and his softness, me and mine
friends from durban and maritzburg. We all arrived after my folks, and my dad was speechless. I decided to fly in, so me, aunt, softie and sis, took to the skies by 44, and flew up.
Had a great weekend, game drives, great food, lots of drink, total luxury and of course relaxing.
Now, some of you are going to attack me for doing a "sales pitch", but that's not the intention of this post. I just want to tell you about a awesome weekend get-away.
Amakhosi Lodge (www.amakhosi.com) is a 13000 ha private game farm, Big 5, in Zululand. The lodge sleeps max 12 guests - in very luxurious, comfortable chalets overlooking the river. You are treated as a guest, not just a number. I arrived, and ordered a double Captains and Coke, the usual - and that was the last time I ordered a drink by name. ALL the staff know your name, your drink of choice, your chalet number etc. The rooms don't lock - (they do have a safe in the room) but that just shows what it's like.
People, if you are looking for a 5 star game lodge - at 4 star prices, this is a must. They do NOT try to churn out as many clients as possible, and they don't guarantee that you'll see the Big 5 - if you want that, then go to the Sabi Sands. I'm actually battling to write a description that will suit. If you have a copy of the May edition of SA Flyer, there's a article in there about it. They have a helipad, and a decent runwway - although I would never leave my microlight there overnight - so maybe consider driving.
If anyone wants more info - let me know.
I will post a few pics here, just to TRY show you what I am talking about. If you want more pics, go onto the website, click gallery, click lodge pics, and enjoy.
regards
