Suzuki Motor

Postby norm » Thu Feb 11, 2016 8:29 am

Suzuki K10. 1000cc, 3 cylinder, four stroke, fuel injected motor out of a Suzuki Alto. 50kW (68hp) as stock standard, but without the catalytic converter and with a Spitronic engine management system fitted, I would expect it to be producing around 75-80hp now. (No dyno). Similar size to Yaris engine. With a 2.5:1 C box, ready to mount on an Aquilla.
I was planning on converting my Aquilla but just don't have the time to complete the project. The Aquilla mounting was supplied by the company that supplies the Aquilla factory and modified to fit the new motor. It was heat treated after welding and load tested to 500kg.
The engine had less than 1000 km on it when I removed it from the vehicle if I remember correctly. I have completed about 5 hrs tuning and static testing on a test rig.
I don't have an exact weight at the moment. I will have to remove it from the test rig for an accurate weight but I was aiming for 100kg all up.
Status of the project - running and ready to mount. Still need to tidy up the wiring and connect to instruments, fit lighter flywheel, lighter exhaust (used the car silencer for testing purposes)
Also have a set of plans to build an Airtrikes Eagle, which commonly uses the Suzuki G10 motor, and a build number from RAASA. My plan B if the red tape for the Aquilla conversion was too much.
Price R20 000. I spent twice that, but it is just taking up space in my garage now, so if anyone wants to take on the project I'm open to offers.

I would love to hear how it sounds and how she performs on an Aquilla, climb rate, cruise, etc...I'm sure fuel burn would be awesome s079

Total weight is 104kg. This is the weight of the complete motor in test running condition. ie including adaptor plate and reduction gearbox, Aquilla engine mounting and framework, exhaust system, radiator, wiring loom, all fluids etc.
So if you want a bare motor weight it depends how much stuff you want to take off. If you take off the engine mounting and framework +-10kg, exhaust system is heavy - just made it up for testing purposes - and I reckon you could lose 5kg there with a lightweight stainless system, take off 8kg for the gearbox, about 7kg for oil and coolant - that gives you 74kg.
