PS: Where you got V51 from - were you there?
Hi John,

Yes, unfortunately, I was there last Saturday for a while but there was a howling gale blowing ! The plane is now at Oribi so the current, weather dependant, plan is to leave there VERY early Sunday morning. Well, I am hoping to come down in that direction again a bit later in the year with AVB, with ZS6KVR/V51KV in the back !

Yes, it would have been great to have a "non RF" QSO ! Hope to hear you on the air sometime...

I am a born Namibian with family still there, enjoy going there once a year to cause a pile-up with the V5 !

Have a great day,
73, Rudi de ZS6DX/V51VE

Hi Everyone,

Well, the plane is still at Oribi :?

This time there was heavy and low cloud cover over the Drakensberg and at Oribi, a big "no-go"

So, we try again next weekend, with no other commitments both Saturday and Sunday are options.

Had some good flying Saturday here in GP, had a 20+mph 90deg cross wind, made for some great cross wind landing practise  I am fortunate to have a great instructor, he makes it look easy as pie :-) 2 hours of that and I was rather tired.... (but VERY happy :-) ) It was great to see 3-axis planes flying in these conditions, even had a few trikes land under these conditions ! It just shows, if they can do it in CT we can do it as well :-)

Have a great week !
Regards,
Rudi

Timeless Test

Postby John Young » Mon Aug 14, 2006 10:42 am

Gee Rudi – this is becoming a timeless test. Will be a real vintage aerie by the time you get to Petit – a serious museum piece!!.

Weather was real K@K – only had 10 minutes over the whole weekend and today, the weather is just absolutely perfect – typical Monday.

Hi John,

Yes :D I can only hope that the "third time lucky" thing will work here as well, if it does next weekend should see the end of this saga. The thought has crossed my mind (very briefly) to trailer the plane to Petit but that would be admitting defeat and spoil the fun !

Did 2 hours Saturday morning in the wind at Petit, learned a lot with a 90Deg cross wind....

I saw a sat image and the whole of KZN was covered with cloud, the only cloud anywhere in Southern Africa !

Safe flying,
Rudi

So emil....

Going VERY well thanks ! Progress is great. Just wish I had more time !

Andy believes that you should learn to fly in ALL conditions, not just perfect conditions, you never know what the weather can do once you are in the air !

The X-AIR is a superb aircraft !

How is the school going ?

Nah, still in ‘Maritzburg

Nah, still in ‘Maritzburg – if Rudi had flown up, I am sure he would have posted by now.

Rudi, why don’t you fly up during the week? The weather in KZN is always good from Monday to Friday. Just the weekends are sh@t!

Hi John !

Yes, this is becoming quite a mission ! We had flights booked and everything planned for Sunday, result, low fog, the cloud base at 1000', followed by rain

Well, looks like the next front will move through Thursday/Friday, lets hope we have a clear weekend.

Emil: Yes, once the baby is here I will bring it around. Also looking at another plane (in partnership) but have not quite decided....... This time maybe something a bit closer, or located in a part of the country that NEVER gets rain :D

Hold thumbs everyone !
Happy flying,
Rudi
