Trike school and hangerage

Postby slysi » Wed Aug 02, 2006 3:41 pm

Nice to be back on line....the IT propellar heads blocked the Microlighters web site for some unknown reason but lo and behold it is back....very frustrating trying to keep up to date with the goings on using a PDA and GPRS :? .

Anyway, I am coming to the end of my current academic endeavors and can now fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot :D . I am still a bit confused about the choice between trikes and three axis but after having flown in both the freedom of a trike feels awsome. So I guess this is the way I will go.

The problem is as follows. I will most probably buy my own trike, 582 minimum, but it looks like getting hangar space is a problem. Does anybody know of an airfield that has both available hangar space and a trike flight school? I live in the West Rand but would not mind driving to a field further afield i.e. Alberton area.

Another question relates to the type of trike. If I buy for example a Raptor would any flight chool be able to teach me on that type or would they be restricted to the type they are approved on, say an Aquilla?

Lastly, what modifications would I have to make on my own trike to be able to complete my licence on it?

Thanks for the help guys.

Hey slysi, i am based in Mulbarton that is close to the Johannesburg Microlight Academy (kliprivier). I am considering being a student there myself. They definatley have a training school, but your going to have to call Mike Cathro (082 9282744) there and find out about hangerage.
