Hi Folks , just a short one to let ya guys and dolls (more is mos vroue dag) know that the Old Lafe helmet factory in Benoni is now producing lekker helmets specially adapted for Microlights , - Quality is good , stocked by Talliban as well - coulours red , black yellow , blue an white , visors two types , I prefer the Buzzcom type , prices to rock you , strange that you can get a local products as good as the supposed superior quality imports , not even mentioning the ceapskate Chinese goods , I got one for the airhostess on AERLINGUS - me now owns me private airline ya know . Enjoy the womans day , - we will be off to the fellows at Groblersdal ,Leprachaun

Leper - I like the helmet Big G has - is it anything similar with properly closing sides?

I have a Buzzcom helmet but chucked the visor after the second flight - Flying with goggles but admittedly the vis is not so great - my problem is the little bit of wind that creaps in from the side - ze eyes do not like it!

Do you have any pics? I surely would like to go the visor route but need something more windsafe.

Visors and goodies

Postby ZULU1 » Fri Aug 11, 2006 9:48 pm

I supply them visors and next week Aviation Engines will be stocking our Bibs as well. This prevents the air from underneath giving those watery eyes.

Pics of Visor Bib

Postby ZULU1 » Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:18 pm

We also make this component (Visor Bib) in Black or White complete with fitting kit, they stop all wind chill and prevent watery eyes.We export them also. As stated above, Aviation Engines are stocking them from next week. Also GPS bags, Radio bags and Motorcycle Intercomms. Flying club caps and Tee shirts.

Bad bad watery eyes - don't like it - sorry guys - the helmet is good, but I had "wind-creep" with this model.

Big-G has a motorcycle style helmet with a sort of fixed piece around the mouth - a mould around the microphone part of the main helmet - more like a motorcycle helmet with a visor that drops down and seals in place.

Looks like he gets a very clean "seal" between visor and helmet...

I agree, these helmets offer a serious wind chill factor; look like babalaas eyes after a while. If someone's going to buy new; buy wise.

Paul, are these visor / bibs compatable with the generic (Buzzcom) helmets as seen in the top pic and what do they cost?

Visor Bibs

Postby ZULU1 » Sun Aug 13, 2006 9:56 am

Good Day

They are compatible as the Buzzcom and Speakease Visors have a small lip around the inside at the bottom. I supply these visors (and have fitted them to Buzzcom helmets) also as we use the same device on our helmets to the security industry for pepper spray deflectors. In the supplied fixing kit is a small spacer which spaces the unit "off' from the visor in the centre section. I flew a security helmet into Virginia a few weeks back with the airshow (for those that saw it) and beside being twice the weight it was very warm and almost no wind came in, however I must say that on the ground I did steam up until airborne !!

I am unsure of Nirens pricing but would imagine will be about ZAR 120.00

The bibs do not fit the USA made Speer visors though which I will be making for soon.

Cheers Paul

I have one of the above lids, find a bit of wind around the eyes which comes in from the bottom of the visor..dissapears if I hold my hand over the area.......the bib sounds good, will have to get one.
