Syphoning pipe filter needed

Postby mulderpm » Tue Aug 12, 2014 11:46 am

Help!. On the end of my fuel syphoning pipe there is (was) a nylon filter. The one end of the "invisible" pipe has the ball valve and on the other was a plastic mesh filter. It is now broken and I need to replace it. Can anyone please tell me where I can get one in Pretoria or Johannesburg. I have phone Midas & Autozone and boating places but they do not know what I am talking about.

HELP :(>

Paul if you take your old feul filter and cut the 90 degree bend off it fits exactly on the pipe. Thats what I have done. 8)

Thanks. My old feul filter (on the plane) is one of those Mercedes types. Is that the one you are talking about? The one I had was like a basket with holes in the side....the fuel pipe fitted on a fitting on the one side. Like the ball valve, but without the ball and with nylon mesh inside.
I have trapped many pieces of dirt in this filter....it is a must. I will have a look at the old filter option. (^^)

Looking at a picture of the filter I see what you mean. The pipe should fit tightly over what is left after cutting off the 90 degree bend. I will just also open up the other end to improve fuel flow. Thanks again. (^^) (^^)

I've been syphoning through a stocking folded quite thick for many years.... no hassles.

Pictures as promised. I think the new thinner filter will fit easier into the tank.

This is a very old filter, 001.477.79.01. It is much bigger than the new replacement from Mercedes, 001.477.66.01. I will change mine to the smaller one when I change my planes filter in 20hrs time.

Double filtered fuel. No k@k in my carbs vhpy

Maybe some of the "old" hands can tell me how to make my own syphoning pipe filter ?
