Hi guys - please can someone offer some advice. I have and icom radio that came with my trike. The previous owner had it setup to run to comms off the trike battery/engine. As soon as you take the radio off the trike it does not work - so I assumed the battery was dead. I ordered a new battery from battery experts in Durban thinking it would fix the problem. It didn't. The same happens. When I plug it into the ac mains it works fine but does not seem to charge the battery nor use the battery at all. The moment the charge lead is pulled out the battery dies.
Does anyone know if there is a fuse that might be blown? Anything I can do?
Does anyone know where I can take this radio to be repaired?
It's an icom ic-a23.
Thanks,
Brad

Wings & Things (Lanseria/Grand Central) deal with the iCom agents and must be able to point you to a services centre!

Sorry to advise the ICA5/23 is an orphan, we cant hey spares for them. Most common fault is the power jack comes off the pcb and may be given a 30 % chance of fixing it. So if you have a unit, then if it goes pop. Thats it Multisource dont have spares any more.

Hi Brad,
I had my Icom a23 radio fixed by a small company in Rynfield. They seem to be very competent.
Unfortunately I am out of the country, and do not have their contact details.
Fanie of the Microland flying school referred me to them. He has their details.
Regards,
Arnulf

On a similar topic perhaps someone, maybe Paul or Brad, can tell me if battery packs for the A23 are still available or can be made up and, if so, from whom can they be obtained? Preferably a source in the Durban area would be favorite but, failing that, anywhere in SA would be OK.
Thanks and regards,
Peter
