US engine prices

Postby justin.schoeman » Wed Feb 19, 2014 12:44 pm

Everybody always comments on how expensive Rotax is. I was quite surprised when browsing Zenith's site for engine mount prices. They have current pricing on a whole bunch of engines in the US:

UL Power 260i: $ 19,400
UL Power 260iS: $ 20,850
UL Power 350i: $ 24,800
UL Power 350iS: $ 25,872

Rotax 912UL (80HP): $ 16,690
Rotax 912ULS2 (100HP includes HD Starter, Clutch and Flexible Fuel Lines): $ 19,850
Rotax 912ULS3 (100HP includes governor drive for hydraulic constant speed prop): $ 21,350
Rotax 912iS (100HP EMU and Exhaust System sold separately): $ 25,190
Rotax 914UL2 (115HP): $ 31,670
Rotax 914UL3 (115HP includes governor drive for hydraulic constant speed prop): $ 33,170

Continental O-200-D4B: $ 21,480

Lycoming YO-233-X: $ 21,980
Lycoming YIO-233-X: $ 23,530
Lycoming O-235-N2C: $ 28,750
Lycoming YO-360-A4M: $ 27,830
Lycoming YIO-360-M1A: $ 30,470

It is interesting:
1) how much cheaper the 912 is than anything else, and
2) how comparable the ~100hp pricing is between all 'competitors'.
3) how much more expensive Rotax is in SA...

(Also interesting to note that the Rotax installation packages cost around $2000 more due to all the required life support equipment.)

your costing is so far off its scary!

no CHANCE is rotax those prices -- maybe in 2009, but DEFINATELY not now! Have a look on barnstormers and you will see second hand engines going for close to you new prices!

UL prices are also lower than you quoted - I spoke to the guys from UL at the Kitty hawk show and they confirmed that the price for the 350IS 130HP is only 18900EURO -- its about a R50 000.00 savings

Rotax prices here:

http://zenair.weebly.com/rotax.html

With this note:
NOTE: these prices effective January 16, 2014
So these are current Rotax prices.

€18,900 ~= R 283,500 ~= $ 25,727 which is pretty much the same as the price on Zenith's shop.

EDIT: You can follow the links from that site to the other engine pages. These are the prices that Zenith is selling engines for.

That sounds about what my US distributors advertise at (Ill send them an email to double check) - they get an OEM discount as I'm sure Zenair do.

We make our own radiator and exhaust kits.

Sa Retail price is R241 521 + vat (based on R15.02 to the Euro)

Clever Mike - lets add the VAT and you get R275333.94 EXCLUDING REQUIRED PARTS TO RUN THE ENGINE

Radiator
Exhaust
Oil cooler
Reservoir
Piping
Heat sheathing
Etc

Try over R300 000.00 for a measly 100HP rotax carburettor engine.

UL or revmaster (dare we compare), Suaer(again dare we compare) etc etc will sell you an engine for half the price WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO RUN IT

Compare thenUL top of the range to the rotax top of the range fuel injected 914 and this is what you get.

http://www.lockwood.aero/c-1-rotax-airc ... gines.aspx. $31679.00
EXCLUDING PUMPS, RESEVOIR, RADIATOR, EXHAUSTS, ETC ETC ETC LANDED HERE WITH VAT AND SHIPPING ETC YOU IN FOR CLOSE TO R400 000.00

UL costs 18000euro in South Africa! That's R288000.00 at SIXTEEN RAND TO THE EURO!!!
And that's everything included fuel njected and 130HP

DONE WHERE DO I SIGN!!
