John Miller RIP 1957 – 2014.
Postby GL » Wed Feb 05, 2014 1:55 pm
It is with profound sorrow that I announce the untimely death of John Leslie Miller.
John passed away this morning, 5th February 2014, from a heart attack while on his morning walk around Northcliff Hill.
John was a very well known and loved aviation writer and photographer. He founded Aero Africa magazine in 1993 which he ran for ten years. He then accepted the position of Editor at SA Flyer Magazine, which position he held until 2007 when he accepted the challenge of starting Mid-East Flyer, a magazine for General Aviation in the Middle East.
He has achieved world-wide recognition for his skills as an aviation photographer. His work has graced the covers of most of the major aviation publications and he has been an invited lecturer to a number of international aviation photography courses.
John also provided a key service to many aviation companies for their advertising and social media campaigns. For the past few years he has been back at SA Flyer and FlightCom magazines as a Contributing Editor, where he made an invaluable contribution. At SA Flyer we are all shocked by his untimely passing. He was just 56 years old.
He leaves behind his partner Denise and his daughter Isabelle.
His huge contribution to aviation in South Africa will be sorely missed.
RIP John Miller...

Re: RIP John Miller...
While i had long respected John's pictures and writing in the various aviation magazines, I had the opportunity to meet him and his family for a much different reason.
During the 2010 world cup they released a sticker book with all the players and he had posted on Avcom that they were looking for a few of the cards that were proving hard to find.
We met at the Harvard and spent a few memorable hours sorting through cards and talking about many things and then a bit of flying too.
It was a very good day and i'm sorry that you are gone so soon,
RIP John, my heartfelt condolences to those you have left behind
