Oh boy, I can write a book ;-)

Tumbleweed really will understand the mechanics of such an event. @FalconP, the event was reclassified as an "airshow" as there would be display flying by pilots with display ratings. The more stringent rules post Glen Dell accident would also apply. There is things such as liability insurance (R 60 000 for the day) which we were very lucky to have got away with in 2013. The criteria for a fly-in is little different however...

So many people and organizations between a rock and a hard place with hosting such an event.

So without finger pointing and before the input cost became a problem and we reached bingo fuel point, we had to can the event in its format.

Don't be fooled that one might think Kitty Hawk will be a watered down affair.... it wont! (^^)

A few of us Bantamites from Lydenburg will be supporting Andrew Pappas on this Fly-in to Kitty Hawk.
Please provide us with the following information:
Details of Kitty Hawk Airfield...Co-ords, elevation, runway headings, Radio Freq. and any other info needed.
We would like to fly in on the Friday morning if that is possible.
Thanks
Rgds, Dirk

Hi John .

My rant was mainly fueled by the fact that the south has lost such a great event. You guys put up such a great show last year.

To me it was the equivalent of showing the rest of the establishment the middle finger. Microlighters could do things better and in the spirit of microlighting. Last year I camped out at Tedderfield and had the time of my life.
This year I was determined to fly in with the family to follow in the bakkie with all the camping equipment. I even did a few tedderfield circuits just to familiarize myself with the airfield layout. So you can understand my disappointment.

Anyhoooo. I'll be there tent and all and can't wait to meet up with all the guy's and gal's again

Regards

Ladies and gents, don't let the flier fool you about this event... it is a fly-in - yes, but also an expo such as Tedderfield was. The suppliers to the Microlight / LSA / Gyro industry are starting to latch on to the event and the list I have so far that will be attending with their products... I will update as we progress...

Microaviation - Bathawk
RAFSA - RAF Gyro'
Bundu Aviation - Zenith Aircraft, UL engines, Whirlwind props
Skyreach - Bush Cat

So where are the others - I await their confirmation of attendance.

Hey Freddie thank you for the kind words... any event with an airshow component is going to take stick from here on is my opinion. That this event is going to be "inferior" to the others - HELL NO! To be quite honest, there are so many things that go into the planning of the event - so, when you are at KittyHawk - look up Tumbleweed and just ask him about the ins and the outs as I may not be objective ;-)

When I heard that all the ducks were not to be allowed to fly at Tedderfield I was devastated.

Did they want The Aviation Showcase and Pilots for Pilots Day to be another bacon & eggs fly-in?

Then when I heard about the reaction to the switch to Kitty Hawk I was astounded and so will you be. The venue is proving to be a very popular choice. Certainly the location of the Club House, the Hospitality of the Kitty Hawk Committee and a whole lot more people that are going that extra mile to create another cracker of a day need to be thanked. Just think, all the ducks will be there and you will be able to swim and quack all day long.

Aircraft of all types will be there. Bring your piggy bank and buy a model, maybe a dune buggy, LSA, GPS or a kit etc

DEALS - DEALS - DEALS
All suppliers will have a DEAL OF THE DAY. We will be there loading DEALS - then for those that cannot make it - download the DEAL POCKET ADVISOR to your phone or PC and browse the deals. You can phone in - we will be loading pictures to each suppliers listing all day long. You will be able to visit the training schools - and - get a training DEAL. Visit an AP and get a DEAL. It is all about suppliers offering irresistible DEALS - and what's great is that you will be able to load the APP to your phone and browse even if you are on Monty's Pont in Malagas sipping your plum wit blits! In fact if you are a school or supplier in the Cape, as an example, you can be listed and we will load your DEALS onto the APP also.

Our POCKET ADVISOR APP will go live on 25 January 2014 and on that date it will be rather empty. Deals will be loaded from then and as stated we will keep loading bargains - so bring your smart phones and enjoy the AVIATION SHOWCASE.
