Buying new? Buy now!

Postby Thunderboy » Thu Jun 29, 2006 11:35 am

With the dollar strengthining (spelling?) Rotax engines in SA are going up end of next week, or before if stocks run out.
This will affect all imports as well - so if you planning on buying new get your order in now

Looks like we this will just have to start converting BMW & Honda motors ... Rattexes already a darn Rip off... those 912's are such neat motors :? :?

We have 2 localy developed BMW 1100 Bikemotor powered trikes with dual electronic Ignition / Fuel injection flying along happily for past year - and soon to swop out to test 1200 motors
All up cost extimated to be around R70000 for 105/110hp  :) 8)

I think it is the Euro exchange rate we need to worry about.

There was a Bush Baby at FAFK flying with a R100 BMW motor. (the classic BMW air head). I do not know how well it flew but what a beautiful sound. Nothing like the much loved Ratex screech.

Hmmm, I wonder how AUKie will do with a little 100hp BMW1100 motor? Are they selling these motors when they upgrade?

These are MOTORBIKE motors and everyone know the BMW motorbike riders are the elite of the motorcycling world (classic Air Heads riders are the royalty)

So it also mean that you have to buy your next plane now and hang on a little before you sell your existing one.

I know of one in a Whisper with fuel injection conversion. Their fuel economy is great.

CW, are you using afrikaans on the Abs over there?

The eninge is based on the VW sub assembly, but the dual ignition and carb system is totally new.....Did you know that the Jabiru engine is based on Toyota parts? I prefer an engine that hums at 3000 rpm in the cruise than one that shrills at 5800 rpm (both being 4-stroke) like the 912......
