who can assist,
like to know what is the pressure per kg/ pound, or what ever scale are used by the instrument used by APs to test the wing material strenght, and are these instruments subjected to a annual recalibration

Re: Dacron wing
Good question , there were are different grades of dacron used , I will find the pressure as supplied by Aiden , Solowings as it was supplied a few years ago , I check my tester every year and it has remained within spec , the English trikes use different thinner grade dacron as did some aeros wings of a few years ago , the tester is pretty fool proof , as some oke once asked what kind of flies were flying around his face and the proffessor answered that they were horse flies , and were so named as they fly around the backside of a horse to which the oke asked if the prof was saying that his face looked like the backside of the horse , the prof replied no intentions whatsoever , but you cant fool the horse flies ! same with the cover unfortunately if its vrot its vrot ,unfortunately its your life not the Ap s

Hi Alex
The pressure when you push on the scale is 6.5kgs.
Regards
Denise
Please note that sail testers supplied to AP’s by Solo Wings cc are the correct ones to use when testing our sails..
Sincerely
Aidan de Gersigny

Re: Dacron wing
Alex, which is 6.5kgs on the tester, the first stripe or the 2nd?
You also mentioned previously that different pressure testing is applied to the top and bottom side of the wing.

Re: Dacron wing
hi uncle alex
i dont think the question is whether the aps or pilot life is at stake , other than the pure interest of the test, the importance of a good wings is unquestionable and only a idiot will fly with dangerous sail, however 6.5 kg seems a lot of pressure on a sail for the the size of the pin pressing on the sail,

Re: Dacron wing
The first mark/stripe on the tester is for the top fabric , the next one is for the bottom , as per the letter from Aiden , I have calibrated my tester for the English Mainair blades , Pegusus etc , after an incident where a wing was destroyed due to testing with the wrong pressure .
Buks the tester is ex Solowings and was certified by them , I often check tester with other Ap s as well , by putting the two pins against each other and check the pressure to ensure that they are within spec , You can order a tester from California power systems in the good old USA , should you want one , Alex
