"Savannah and others" trip Botswana Namibia

Postby Rudolph » Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:18 pm

I want to do a trip through Botswana and Namibia in 2014. Lets make it a Savannah formation. Any Savannah owners want to join me?

Yes Byron you are welcome. I have some friends in Namibia I plan to visit alone the trip. What is the Bushcat short field abilities and cruising speed?

rudolph i think we need to know what the limitations are in terms of landing area available -- i am able to land my cheeath at springs runway 03 and exit on the first taxiway which is 120m from the beginning of the runway .... also the cheeath likes to cruise at around 80-85mph depending on which wing is on the plane.

this soulds lekker, but i think the savannah is faster than that ...

Turbo
I have to discuss with those done it before and discuss with my mates I want to visit and then put something together. I think we must must get airies together that cruise about the same and have the same abilities.

I don't think the Savannah is much faster thann the Cheeta, I think they about the same. My old Savannah cruised aroud 80mph, the Savannah S cruise around 95mph

Hi Guys,

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but don't worry about speeds! We/Panorama pilots did a fly-away to the West Coast, about 9 aircraft ranging from RV9's (145kts), RV10 (165kts), FK14 (130kts), Slings (3 off at 115kts) and a Tri-Pacer at 105 kts, and guess what, we ALL got there together.

Slower aircraft take off first and gets passed along the way, then the fast aircraft get there first and obviously first to the bowser cause they use more fuel. By the time sthe slow aircraft landed, all are at the same spot with the same amount of fuel in the craft.

All I want to say is, from Cheetas to RV10's, all can fly together, just a little bit more planning!

You guys must enjoy the trip!

Hi Rudolph, I would defnitely be interested to join. But it will depend on the time of year and how long you are planning to go for.

Sounds like a great idea. Agree with Henry that we should not limit this to only Savannah's. vhpy

Cheers

Once I understand the procedures I will call a meeting for all that is interested. We make it then a fly-in to my farm in Marblehall approx 90 miles from Ingwe airfield. We can then also invite Blue Max and Louis Cole who just complete a similar trip in there microlights.

Hi Turbo
Not so sure about the Navion's short field capabilities...

Hi air hog - they have been tested to 150meters on landing with disc brakes.

oom Paul at FASI owned one for 12 years and landed many times on 03 and exited on the first taxiway - that's 180meters from the beginning of the runway.

With 44deg flaps the plane stalls at 46mph.... She can land short and with the 225hp up front, she is off the ground quickly also.

If the runways are shorter than tis, then I'm in poo ... :)
