What a Black weekend.

Postby Bennie Vorster » Sun Jun 11, 2006 6:11 pm

What a Black weekend?

Trying to keep the score between the accidents posted on AV Com and Micro lighters for the weekend.

Am I correct If I say four crashes and maybe six people lost their lives and two saved.

What is happening here

Condolences to all that lost a loved one or are missing or injured or lost a plane.

Yeah its hectic !!!! Hope it all stops now , it seems to be getting worse. Why is this ? Is it because people are not maintaining the aircraft as they should ? Or is it maybe that training is not so good? Or people are just being careless? All i know is that it is very sad loosing friends and fellow aviators.

Hello Eyetie

I think a major reason is people being careless!! I see it around me all the time and at some point it bites you in the %$#*&!!!!

1) People flying in dangerous weather conditions (cb's)
2) Taking-off when there's mist, low visibility!
3) Not maintaining their aircraft (sparkplugs, cleaning airfilters etc)
4) Flying long distances without proper planning(weather, fuel availability, mountains)

The Day you stop being a bit nervous when go flying, SELL YOUR PLANE AND STOP FLYING :!: :!: :!:

I just feel that I need to bring up the combined factor of been in a hurry or just been ignorant, whether it comes to low level flying, inspections, maintenance or just taking a change coz maybe the problem on my aircraft might not be that serious, not planning trips properly or know the limitations of your aircraft.

RATHER SAVE THAN SORRY GUYS. YOU OWE YOUR LOVED ONES ATLEASED THAT :!: :!: :!:

Why does it make you nervous when you fly if other people crash :?:

You know that you are carefull that you did you planning and that you maintenance on your aircraft is spot on. So why so nervous :?: :?:

I agree that you have to respect the aircraft and fly it not only in its on limits but yours too.

But some reponses when there is a aircraft crash is abit over the top.

For Example

"Are we dancing with death"

" If these crashes are not gonna stop I will hang up my flying Jacket"

"I feel that i'm not in control"

"Are we safe doing this sport"

Some of you guys should relax and enjoy the wonderful gift that was given to us. If you up there and worry the whole time what fun is it.

Glad you could get back to Newcastle Bennie sorry I did not reconize you only later found out you are Bennie from this Forum. When you in Ladysmith again let me know and I will take you in my Cessna Jabi wannabe  .

All these reactions are pretty normal whenever there has been a spate of accidents.

Lets just look at the last two, both in the sea. Now all of us know that you should not be flying over water unless you are in safe gliding distance of land. This was not the case in both instances, sadly at the cost of two lives. So once again, even though it was perhaps a mechanical fault, the real killer was pilot error. Flying is exciting enough as it is, why push the boundaries beyond the safety barrier. Flying over water like this is the same in my eyes as a base jumper who continously wants to get closer and closer to the ground before pulling the cord. Eventually the ground IS going to win.

Does this make me nervous to fly, NO, just the moer in that this was completely avoidable.

Hello Cornell

I'm not to sure the nervous part has anything to do with flying your own plane. The problem is, if we have aircraft accidents every single weekend, it will just be a matter of time before CAA clamp down on our freedoms. Not being able to do our own services, having it done by "qualified" people asking expensive rates ect.

Now the question is, why do we fly microlights except for it being the perfect vehicle for scenary flying.

We fly microlights because it's CHEAP! If people don't start to respect the freedom given to us, we will all suffer because of it and it will become another form of aviation to expensive for the average man!!!

Truly saddening!

I wish people would just stay inside the safety envelope.

My Biggest fear is that ALL MICROLIGHT PILOTS now will get this funny sorta "Oh you are one of those crazies that fly MICROLIGHTS ? ? " thrown at you at parties or where ever and suddenly you have a brand across your head saying you are totally nuts, nevermind that you have a perfect record.

I just say think before you fly :!: pull your head outa your ASS and think.

Sorry really pationate about flying and it just grinds me when accidents happen that could have been avoided :!:

Irrespective of our safety envelopes, people will always go overboard - no pun intended.

Why did we invent a helmet, because what we were doing kept cracking our skulls, so instead of stopping the activity we made helmets to protect our heads and continued our head cracking activities!

My point is it appears people will continue to fly lower than they should - as I witnessed at the coast too and over dams up here, maybe this is a call for Amphib Trikes at the coast?

I for one would not be scared it I knew I could land on water, forget the flippin alien plants! I mean technology does have a solution for this!?

all very sad

Pilots of both ml's and bliks are at fault.
This morning I was in the Magaliesberg GFA and communicating with a piper - we agreed that I would stay east and he would stay west of the radio mast as we both doing exercises. We were both continually giving our location on the radio and had a visual on each other. Next thing some toffee (not sure what it was just that it was red and fast) flies a stone throw from me into the pipers sector, no radio call to anyone of us. He must have known we were there if he was on the radio - too fast to get any registration marks but I think he was just fooling around, the other guy asked if I had seen him and was also stunned.
