Microlight on Globe Trekker episode Travel channel DSTV

Postby D2O » Sat Jun 01, 2013 8:23 am

Stumbled on an episode on DSTV travel channel called Globe Trekker last night, where the presenter was touring the Seychelles.
He went to a guy called Johan who had an orange Aquilla 582, reg ZU -BHH who flew him around the ocean looking for a whale shark.
Loved seeing our aeries being featured in travel doccies. Gave me goosebumps to think that we're so privileged to be able to do these things. vhpy
DSTV did not list what episode it was, but I'm sure it will repeat.

That would have been Johan Anderson, he is a hang glider pilot living close to Wilderness. He has been going to the Seyshelles every septemer/October as part of a project to count whale sharks off the Seychelles. As you say what a privilege to be able to do that. Another pilot who also did it said it was a great experience but the flying was demanding. Several hours every day in sometimes strong conditions with the requirement to fly inaccurate grid over the sea at an accurately controlled height. This is from a pilot who has towed hang gliders in the middle of the day at Kuruman during a hang gliding worldrecord encampment.

I actually saw that and I recorded it! It was a pretty cool thing to see in the show. I would like that job! He was in the Seychelles so if you Google "Seychelles Globe Trekker" you will probably be able to order that episode online.. But the microlight only featured for a minute or two.. Unfortunately :/
