Thanks Al. Needed the fix I had on Sunday. Broken cloud base was 6200 and height was 7100-7500, with wind about 10 knts straight down 03. Awesome flying

On landing I noticed another of my exhaust springs had snapped, I didn't have a single failure in 150 hrs. As a precaution, I replaced all the springs 40 hrs ago and now I am getting failures I should have kept the old ones Going to put some silicone rubber on them to dampen the vibration. The old ones had this on and maybe that is what makes the difference.

Removed most of the spiderwebs, inflated the tyres, dusted off the "Red Baron" and did a couple of laps around the airfield on Wednesday to check everything out before flying around the patch on Friday afternoon. I really hope to be around Microland much more this year

Hi Paul.... for your "Technologically disadvantaged" buddy here...I see your route has been downloaded by most of the guys? I do not have mapsource...please post the waypoints here in deg/min/sec?

I will program them into my gps on Sat morning quick...

Hi Alan, I have most of the Northern SA airfields waypoints (482) on my GPS III plus. Includes runway and frequency info. I will bring my laptop on Saturday then we can load them on your GPS if you want them. Your GPSIIIPilot has the Jeppesen database in it, so you should have all the airport, VOR, NDB info available. How accurate/current it is for RSA I wouldn't know. My III plus is for a car, so I have to add all the aviation stuff. You can download MapSource or BaseCamp for free at www8.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp. vfrplanner is also great because it factors in METAR info. It also calculates your fuel burn, distance and TAS. It also exports to MapSource/BaseCamp format, so you can load the route on your GPS'r.

Closest airfield, S25 16 56.9 E28 37 43.2, 05-23, dirt, 1400mx20, 124.8 Mhz. JAG, S25 36 46.5 E28 32 23.7, 10-28, dirt, 1120x20, 124.4 (FAD128 - Pta FTA).

Hi I see you have "Rooikraal" as S25 15 02.5 E29 39 39.1, 13-31, dirt, 480mx10 but sorry perhaps I'm blind I can't find the runway eish!?

Hi Ant,

Not sure if it's related but some Google images are very old and therefore not current.... Even Tribal Croc's runway "does not exist" according to google earth ....having been there though I can vouch that it does.

Better safe than sorry though

Hi Anthony, I never intended for the info I used for the Elands trip, and put on this forum, to be used a a reference for all trips in the future. Maybe I should have given a print out to Alan I.s.o. putting it on the forum. The info was based on several books, maps and google earth. If it is incorrect I apologise. Buy the books, software and maps and draw up your own flight plan.
