Is a VSI of any real use?

Maybe I should clarify my previous post. Instruments are an aid to flying, sometimes a very important aid! What I was trying to convey is that the PIC should be able to manage his A/C to such an extent that he is able to return safely back to base, with airframe and engine running.

This in no means justifies flying when you know your fitted instruments are defective, nor when you have limited logged hours and neither when you lack situational awareness.

I have a concern that next week some young F16 wannabe pulls a stunt and then says, " But the guys on MLers do it !!!"

It is a handy instument even if you are able to fly by your pants.
I like to make use of it.
