Software Piracy...

Postby Loco » Tue Dec 18, 2012 10:51 am

* Getting onto soap box *

Hi guys

A have a B in my bonnet regarding software piracy...

I see lots of guys for e.g.
- Copying DVD's (specifically aviation related DVD's)
- Jail-breaking their iPads so they can install aviation apps without having to pay

To me this is the same as walking into a Pick & Pay, filling your trolley with groceries & walking out without paying a cent

Perhaps it hits closer to home for me as I'm also a software developer and I know how much work goes (time = $) into developing quality software

I'm also a believer of "the wheel turns" philosophy, one day that iPad app that you installed illegally will let you down when you need it most -> in the air, beware once the developers find a way to detect illegally installed software they might throw in a spanner or 2 in the worx when you least expect it (not that I wish it on anybody)

Why does seemingly normal law abiding citizens (that you'll probably see in the kerk on Sunday mornings) think that it's OK to steal software?

* Getting off soap box *

Cheers

Nope. At school level and some VB after school. Mostly for fun. Still a soft-spot though.

I agree with the statement don't steal the software if you use it - I think a lot of people pirate software because there is a lot of rubbish out there as well which they have to pay for and no refund policy! I think if the software is used and liked one should pay for it or stop using it.

I have paid a lot of money for my Garmin car GPS and Software and updates but the traffic navigation if rubbish and wont support the product any longer and or buy another one of there devices I feel I have been ripped off with sub par software
