WW2 - Nostalgia

My father served in North Africa and later in Italy in the SAAF! Having a tough time personally and with the 11th hour passed and Poppies being prepared for next year, my good friend Hartog Blok goes and revives so many memories of what my dad was exposed to and lived. He was an aircraft mechanic - damn he was good with his hands. Could fix almost anything...

WW2 has always fascinated me.... thanks for sharing John , and respect to your Dad Sir. My Grandad (giving my age away here) also served up in North Africa. He never ever spoke about his experiences...perhaps he was trying to forget? RIP Gramps

The true human cost of WW2 will will probably never be known... but you just have to read through the stories and tales of those who were there to realise what an incredible sacrifice it all was. These men (and women!) were certainly made of tougher stuff than we are today...?

My late father RIP was also a Desert Rat in North Africa. Wounded and became a POW.

Don't use auto run, take your time and scroll thru each pic. Just put your pointer on the picture to get the dropdown info. Click on the picture to see in full size. Some WWII Iwo Jima photos not normally found in today's "quick" history updates. A tiny Island, apparently some amazing crosswinds and quite possibly the volcanic grit did not make the best surface for runway operations. Here are some of the best WWII pictures I have seen. Don't know where they came from.
