MURKY FUEL

Postby LDV » Thu Nov 15, 2012 6:30 am

Since i received my aircraft a year ago i have been experencing dark mercky fuel from time to time when checking fuel .When checked again it is clear. No signes of dirty fuel in filter. It is a high wing and mostly uses mogas. The fuel lines were checked and found to be of high quality pipes.
Can it be condensation ?

Hi LDV, do you have a header tank? In my Bushbaby, I sometimes find that the fuel which I sample from the header tank is "off colour", and I have put it down to the accumulation of all all sorts, including some moisture / water which accumulates in the tanks if they are not left full.

I have not replaced my fuel filter now for the past 200 hours, only because it is spotless, my AP is quite happy with this. I believe that the header tank is an excellent remover of "contaminants".

Thx Dobbs , I feel better knowing someone else has the same problem and nothing serious. I suspected that water could be the main problem.
