My first advanced training session went well. I really learnt a hell of a lot today. 8)
It was pretty impressive watching you do hammerheads into 03 and then a swooping approach that, let's just say, they don't teach you in Basic Training  My eyes would've been bigger than the headlight. But as one of the guys on the ground said, you were up there with one of the best (^^)

I practised techniques on Sat that I would never have tried on my own... (I am of course reffering to that manoever! )

Conditions were def not nice...(as I'm sure you correctly noted from the ground!)....15knt CW on 03, not many big thermals but pretty turbulent. Understanding how to get the most out your aircraft without exceeding the limits is vitally important in an emergency. Yes the landings were not good  but that will come....this session was more about flying speed and learning how to handle the conditions.

We also spent a bit of time on Situational Awareness....everyone took off on 09 on Sat. I was about to when the destructor said "Wait...look, tell me what you see?" I'll share his thinking with you in person, too complex to elaborate here. ^

I need to anticipate my reactions better...I am not aggressive enough on the bar during the final landing phase! Thus the results you saw   I think we should all be doing these type of "extra lessons"...amazing how much better I feel about things after just one lesson. I am the first one to admit that I was not trained at the best school. Although I consider myself to be a competent and safe pilot,(they dont call me bangat bundy for nothing  )..there are quite a few bad habits that have crept in, so nice to get a new view on things from a very good instructor!

After the last "landing" and slowing down for a fullstop...

"Jirre boet...Kan ek my oe weer oopmaak?"

Yip, I'm in Bundy. Wind forecast looks dreadful for the next 2 days (that's for us mere mortals without advanced training... ) but I'm going to try for Friday morning as well if anyone wants to join me for a few circuits.

No worries Nick, catch you next time.

Jaco...change of plan... (gee that never happens   )

I am not actually sure of we are indeed allowed to fly into Savanah  ....until I am, let's give it a skip. Ek is nie lus vir n "trespassing saak" nie  No body seems to know this beautiful little spot in the Northern side of the GF2?

I bumped into Steve Bosch today and he says we are most welcome to come visit his runway, just east of the FAR171.

S 25 27'18.42"
E 28 24'50.75"

Easy track, route Cullinan Dam and then a small deviation to the left. 500m long with no obstructions, was mowed this last week so should be nice and smooth. We are requested to do a low fly over the strip to get the bokkies clear. (^^)

Jack Lemmon said if you have trouble meeting new people, go pick up the wrong golf ball. I'm sure the same applies to uninvited landings
Let's try for Steve's runway (thanks Steve (^^) ), maybe we route back via Savannah and take a peek from the air..

I have no doubt I (we) will need it. I think a nice little morning run to Jakkaldans would be a good excercise through controlled airspace. I will make a plan to get the guys together for this soon. I see you are just inside the Lanseria CTR....what is the usual process Wrt ATC when flying into your strip Louis? Have never spoken to Lanseria before...

Alan I just phone them before I take-off and report when airborne and also when I'm inbound about two miles out I give a position report and that I intend to land at Jakkalsdans,4.8 miles NW of Lanseria.I visited Lanseria ATC and met them all so they are aware of my landingstrip. They are actually very friendly and accommodating .

OK...Guru says we will have a nice little headwind north, but I think it's looking good for a visit to Steve. (^^) Let's hope the mist stays away. ^

Paul, I am hoping you will lend me your Airfields Directory for a week? I just want to jot down some options and contact details for the TRO...will come drop it off at your house afterwards...pretty please Sir? Will pay you in beer.

Fiezel, will you be there tomorrow? Still have your flight suit.

Thanks for the ATC info Louis, we will def come visit soon. I will give the tower a call and just see where they would prefer me to report after exiting Pinedene at Aero57. (^^) I'm thinking to approach your strip from the N to stay out of the way of their extended centreline?...will discuss with them. (^^)
