How does the presence of a stent affect your chanches of getting a license ?
I had a chat with my cardiologist, and he reckons it`s not a problem.
pilots license and stents
Re: pilots license and stents
Forgive my ignorance Tjola...but what is a stent?
Have a chat to a Aviation Medical Doctor....at the end of the day, he/she will be issuing the Certificate.

Re: pilots license and stents
a stent is sort of a spring placed in your arteries to open any narowing or obstruction in the artery
Re: pilots license and stents
Hallo Tjola
Having a stent makes you unfit until you satisfy the protocol criteria. Initially stents do carry a higher risk of clotting and obstruction and therefore SACAA will put a period of unfitness on your license. Furthermore, the condition of you heart before and obviously after the placing of the stent is of grear interest to CAA. You cardiologist does not know too much about aviation medicine so forgive him his ignorance!
