Airstrip Info? Rietspruit?

Postby Bundy » Fri Aug 24, 2012 7:22 am

Hi Guys, does anyone have any info on this airstrip? Located 6 miles north of Kriel, just south of Ogies? On Google it is labelled as Blesbokfontein but on my 1:500 map it is Rietspruit?

Any contact details? Runway condition?

It is still there but is now a drag strip with starting wires spanned over the runway.

About 15 miles south is Kriel power station with a nice tar strip, pained with white crosses on either side.

I must say when I was flying in witbank, options were quite limited, although my low hours prevented me from wanting to go too far anyway! Now that i'm in the lowveld, options are wide open! I have about 5 or 6 possible 1 - 1.5hr breakfast spots! White river (baghdad cafe) around 26 miles, Kwamadwala 50 miles, Chrissiesmeer 65 miles, Anford 51miles, Numbi 46miles etc.

Now waiting for my ATF, should have it by monday (I hope), trike all sorted, now wanna fly! Havent soloed in 11 months though!! Eish!

Looking forward to doing some decent cross country... Are you gonna be down here for Numbi Cup 2012??

Tough times but I'm saving for the "motherload" (^^) 2000miles....one month. Microland to Alexander bay and back.

Next year hopefully ## (^^)

One day when I'm Big... Really need to klap that lotto for this one dude (**)

To shut my business down for a month and travel 2000 miles with a ground crew does not come cheap...also the little issue of a Ballistic chute for the Richtersveld? Finding it hard to convince myself (and my wife  ) that it is not an essential piece of equip for that "little" piece of real estate. Without doubt the hardest part of the planned route below...very few spots to land let alone "airfields"....but, the Orange river is like a beautiful green oasis through a martian landscape. I've always wanted to travel down the river, what better way than in my trike? 8) ^

Basic Route: Microland,Wingfield,Parys, Bothaville,Christianna,Prieska,Upington, Kakemas, Augrabies, find a runway, find a road, find a space, find a road, find a gravel pan  .....ALEXANDER BAY! South to Port Nolloth,East to Ageneyys, (into the Kalahari) Vastrap Runway,Johan Pienaar airstrip,Vryburg,Mafikeing,Pilansberg, Ntokozo....and home.

Well....that's the dream at least. vhpy

Jeez that looks like a month's worth of flying!! You may have to overhaul your motor twice during that time! Hehehe!!! :D Think it'll be.a fantastic trip though!
