Distracted Flying.!!!

Postby Blue Max » Wed Aug 15, 2012 11:49 pm

Front page news here in BC. ( Vancouver)
Accident with a Cessna 185.(fatal crash)
To sum up..
1. Texting may have caused plane crash.
2. Pilot had spent 28 minutes on phone during flight.
3. During 65 min flight received 3 texs messages and spend 28 min on his phone.
4. Last text message 11 min before the crash.
5. Aircraft experience several large altitude deviations while the pilot was using his cellphone.
6.The opinion is that the pilot have set the stage for his own death by paying to mutch attention to his cellphone and not enough to his flight.

Daar is nie pille vir dommigheid nie.....

... will never understand the need for taking/making a phonecall during flight. (excluding an emergency!) Although I always have the phone in my pocket.... be pretty difficult to use it in flight anyway.

I say "excluding an emergency" because once I flew in a hired trike from Cullinan to BHS Dam and back. As I circumnavigated the dam, I lost the radio. I then instructed my PAX to SMS our planned route home to the owner who broadcast our intentions VIA hand held. Even had one pilot in the area who came up on the Port side wing and flew us half way back by broadcasting for us.....now that's airmanship for you! (^^)

Sometimes a phone can be very handy....but chit chat while flying to me is a no no.

This I totally agree with and besides in an emergency scenario, phones in cockpits are a dangerous device. Whilst testing many cell interfaces, probably 18 months ago, I had a very close encounter with Dave Jackson. Brain in wrong hole...In a trike for some reason you have a tendency to pull the bar in and obviously lose altitude. Probably in a 3 axis the opposite. Obviously tested under controlled conditions. As a result of that Mrs Zulu decided NOT to support cell phone interfaces any more other than on the 4022 series used for counter poaching. Most enquiries were from low hour newly qualified pilots as well. So if you have a cell interface....take care. Music no problem....

As per previous posting, it really is sad seeing people with cell phones walking and texting. What a pitty.
I also saw an advert here on Microlighters with a picture of a car and family and all that you can see is screens and ipads and laptops and dvd players. Its just a picture but comes to show where this damn world is going to. Nothing against the product being advertised ,please note

I find it very very very disrespectful texting and playing with one's Raspberry phone while in conversation or next to a table of people

A lady who worked with us was fired two years ago because she has an addiction to her cell phone and face book. After receiving two warnings, she would lock herself in the toilet for over an hour to spend time on her phone.
Sad .... The digital age has caused a social problem. The youngsters cannot spell anymore. .... Mind you ... I cant either.
