3rd Day in a row, awesome 8)

CLU-less sms'd me at 06h00, pitch dark, saying it's looking good. Got to the airfield at 07h00 and the non-existant wind had turned into a strong easterly, 90deg to the runway

I decided rather to clean my windscreen and chat and then the wind died.

We decided to give it a go but due to time I could only fly for 22 minutes.

CLU-less sayed out late and returned to a howling easterly, the rest is his story.

It still was worth flying

This morning at 10h00, cloudless, hardly wind ( Sasol stack steam flowing vertically for a change) apply my "Need to get fuel for the weekend " story, she interupts with "Just go fly now".

After fart - arsing with fuel, pre-flight e.t.c. take off at 11h00 under the watchfull eyes of a maintenance crew supposed to be cutting the grass along the runway edge.

Air temp 13degrees, experienced anticipated thermals and air pockets only 800ft a.g.l. After bumping around for about 40 min, decided to land.

As I drop into the circuit, notice a strong crosswind and serious turbulance.

Watch as one seriously ugly mother of a giant crop sprayer does the most gracefull landing in front of me. With that weight, no indication of any suprises.

So as I turn into finals, the orange overall grass cutting crew have lined the runway similar to those fools you see on the side of the mountain pass roads during a car rally. As I do my 45 degree crabbing rock 'n roll final flare, I see half of my audience want to clap and the other half start running.

Anyway, after touching down on the centreline, the wind was so strong, it was difficult holfign straight and level during taxi.

After Morph left me this morning I landed at Altona to find another Microlighters member there. =D* Tobie and I left for a flight to the beach and after leaving Big bay I headed back to Morning Star to land in a strong easterly (90 Deg cross) wind. Tobie carried on up the coast heading for Bokpunt.

Haya Morph it looks like you may make it four in a row tomorrow. Expect a early morning SMS wake up call.

Apart from the bumpy landing the weather was great. :D :D :D

Had a really awesome flight on Saturday (even with this very bad cold!) with Dave (another student at Cato). Flew over to Tala Valley and then landed at LiteFlight; buzzed the guys at Emoyeni and then headed back to Cato.

It was good to get some experience in "formation" flying and this is what it is all about - sharing the experience with others who are just as keen :D

Saturday Morning I took off from Kliprivier at 06:20 and headed to Carletonville - then hopped over the Magalies to Brits.

First time I saw those scary ridges from the top down. Was quite an eye opener.

I landed on a private strip and had to take the wing down to taxi AXC to safety. No hangar on the strip yet so scrounging Brits by car I met up with Dale at Aviators Paradise who was just awesome and showed me their facilities.

Needless, Sunday morning I assembled AXC again and it was off to go meet Dale and move into my new Home! Flew until about 10:30!

Same thing yesterday afternoon. Dragged the owner of the farm out to the field (30km by car, 21km by bakkie!) loaded him in and went to buzz his farm for him to take some pics.

On return I took one of his employees of Malawian Descent up - the guy loved it and could not stop talking!

I am looking forward to meeting the other pilots out at Paradise!

Yours in flight!

Aaah, sunday. what a pleasure. headed north along the coast, buzzed softness and mother on the beach, ( they got 37 oysters for lunch), then headed up the Mvoti River, landed on some farm road to put on jersey and ski-ing gloves, carried on up the river, to the escarpment, flew along the range, towards Ndwedwe, (sp, but who actually cares), and over Hazelmere, to La Mercy, had a chat with FF, breakfast, and then back to Ballito along the coast. 1.8 hrs. THen went home, had prawn Green curry, and watched Alonso whip Schumi-chop's ass.
Then got my arm snapped while softness was dragging me to the TV for "Shall We Dance", Mnet 8pm movie. woke up from the couch.... and now just been checked out of ICU!!!

Sat, 3 of us trikes flew over very hazy conditions to Bethal. After circling the town, was summonsed from below to land on a strip. Eventually sighting the Bantam and windlass, land on their farm strip.

Since Bethal's municipal's strip has been annexed  (along with Standerton and others) the locals and farmers have made their own strips. :D the Bantam owner also has his own strip about 10 km out on the Hendrina road. All welcome, phone in advance.

Turns out the farmer who flies his blik off the strip had never found someone to confidently take his size in a trike for a flip (they make them large on the platteland) so volunteer to show him the light.

4 trike and bantam loose formation around town, passing over the school rugby games must have been a good sight.

2.5 hours later, new flying mates and 2 more strips within 20 n miles. :)

Early on Saturday morning, William, Lester and I went off to Petit to meet up with Jenya (the wing's been given the once over and tweaked) and the AP was done by Andy Kasperson.

I managed to get in a quick circuit with Jenya - WRG goes like hell, 62 Mph on the ASI in the circuit with the wing in the "slow" position.

Anyway, we decided to trailer to Klip as our paperwork was not in place and we re-rigged upon arrival.

Photos will follow soonest.

Also, met "Big-D" at Petit, and Dave from La Mercy was in town too - giving Jenya's topless wing a going over - he looked impressed !!!
As usual - it is always a pleasure to meet more trikers thru this forum :D

Cheers

I also managed to squeeze in a little 55 minutes of sunset touring. Had CLU-less and two others tag on and we did a bit of a Swartland tour. 8) :D

It was starting to get dark quickly so we headed on back to Morning Star only to be harassed by a certain low-flying, landing lights on, Junk-yard Dawg  who buzzed our field a few times until it was almost completely dark before heading on back to his field. 8)
