Petrol tank drain

Postby Boet » Tue Aug 07, 2012 9:32 am

I have recently been told about a BB that had an engine out because of fuel starvation, because of a blockage in the petrol tank. To minimise the risk, a sieve MUST be soldered to the brass fitting that goes into the tank. The chances for al those 100`s of hole all getting blocked at the same time, is minimal. See pic.

I use a rather large paper filter. GUD no: BC 31. It has a nice big filter area, so will not block up quickly. ( Note: This is for non prelube petrol systems!!)

Be aware!! Please fly safe. (!!)

Nice looking fitting. Not too easy to regularly inspect though.
Would a transparent inline filter not be a better idea?
(I obviously dont know the history of the problem)

Fuel tank outlet got blocked by dirt so with Boet's system it can not get blocked.

I have a particular distaste of these "fancy" in line filters, with the glas tube in between the two metal, chromed nogal parts. The actual filtering area is very small, and just a tiny amount of dirt will bring u down with a dead engine. As an AP I refuse to sign out aeroplanes without proper sized fuel filters. No compromise.

Hi Boet

Groete

Boet is right , i also dislike and distrust those glass and chrome filters. Rather bet your butt on a GUD filter.

As dit so n klein dingetjie is, groot swaar hammer en n moerse aambeeld. Daai kak hoort nie in n vliegtuig nie.

Groete
Pieter
