Good day fellow aviators
I havent had a chance to speak to an AP or AMO
My aerie is due for the 300 hr inspection. Now my question is. Can I have the 300 hr inspection and decoke be done although its not yet 300 (close @275hrs)?
Thanks for the help

I think that the cost will flucuate wildly depending on who you decide to use.

What is entailed in a " decoke " ..... does the motor have to be pulled apart for this ? ... if so, i dont see the point of having to pull a perfectly good motor apart ! ( non destructive test ... yes, but ????? )
Can somebody help with this .... My motor is also coming up to the 300 hour mark !
I shudder to think !

You can do a Chemical Decoke by running the moter and spraying powertune in through the carbs. I did this at 200 hours and it works well. The problem at 300 is that your crank needs to be inspected and determined whether it needs to be replaced or not.

I think the crank can be inspected through the plug holes with a vacuum guage. No need to tear the motor down.

Very interesting reading regarding the 582 crank.

They also speak of of bearing tests, but more importantly, of the stress risers that probably cannot be detected.
.... Okay then .... A tear down is probably the way to go.

Speak to an AMO or AP. They don't pull the engine apart for the 300Hr inspection. They measure everything without pulling apart the engine. If something is outside tollerance then they may have to dismatle parts to gain access. If at all possible I would not do this at 275hrs, I would wait for the 300hrs.
