Alexander Forbes, Cape Town.

Fire & theft whilst in Hangar, hail damage whilst on overnight fly away and whilst on trailer, vaguely about R1 200.00 to R1 500.00 per year for R500 000.00 cover.

No cover whilst flying.

Price under correction.

Gib insurance JHB, comprehensively insured - best rates I could get. Had 3 claims in less than 3 years and no problems at all. Highly recommend them.

Hi Johan,

DJA gave me a quote for a trike under R60000 that is pretty old. Try them.

hi all

I contacted GIB as well as Denis Jankelow. The 2 x quotes are pretty much the same and it appears if both of them are going with Santam. here are the contact details of both companies.

hey guys

i'm trying to get ground cover only for my trike & it's proving to be very frustrating

apparently the aviation insurance market is very small (2 main players/underwriters) & if i get 1 quote from broker A broker B can't beat their quote since they'll go to the same underwriters

this is what DJA just told me when requesting a quote, the lady said it's pointless asking them for a quote if i already asked another broker for a quote

feels like a monopoly

the best i could get so far for R90,000, fire & theft (in hangar) & hail damage:
Annual Premium: ZAR 2 988.00
Excess: ZAR 15 000 all losses
Premium can be paid monthly at an additional 10% loading

Unfortunately, there will be no cover during trailering
please let me know if you know of another place i can get more competitive cover

cheers
ant

That is professional courtesy... why would a company try and quote against itself or give one broker a more preferential quote on the same business - sort of insider trading!

Sure I was just disheartened that we don't have many options wrt insurance here in SA

But strangely enough I came right with comav in the end, excellent service and premium
