PMB weather

Postby Aerosan » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:00 am

Hi Guys

I might be thinking of moving but it is a BIG decition. I have a few questiones that can help me with my decition and hope that some members can help me make up my mind;
How is the all year round weather in PMB?
Housing?
Schools?

Well I have already seen that there is 4 airfields right there so that should not be a difficult one to sort out

Hope I can get some good reply`s and no snotty comments from a certain Duck. puff

Cheers
Sanna

Weather awesome and some of the best schools in the country with good sports ethic -loads of facilities.

Town just big enough and you're still in the country. I would move there tomorrow.

PMB = Pietermaritzburg?

I grew up there! Great little town. Some great schools like Maritzburg College! Housing, as with most cities, varies by area . . . . both in quality and price!!

Flying weather . . . . consider PMB semi-coastal, just not the land/sea breeze.

I grew up on a farm RIGHT next to the threshold of Oribi Airport and used to sit for hours in a large Jacaranda tree watching aeries take off and land!

PMB is a little "sleepy" if you are used to the fast pace of say JHB, but hey, there's a time and place for such a lifestyle! Maybe you want to downgrade the work stress and focus a little more on flying.

PMB gets my vote! !!!!

Pietermaritzburg has a lot to offer, excellent schools (some of the best in SA) vhpy

great lifestyle but if possible you must locate yourself away from the city centre (**)

awesome flying comunity with lots of activity, we have a great deal more than the 4 airfields you mention !!!!

many private strips and of course the best training schools available situated very close to the city
Light Flight, Emoyeni, Oribi etc (!!) (!!)

weatherwise the autumn and winter season is the best for flying, spring and early summer can be a a little unpredictable with cloud most afternoons
- the effect of an on shore flow as we are relatively close to the sea-

If you want more info and more encouragement to get down here give me a call

Guys!! Jis this looks like a done deal :!: I’ll fly Saa down there next week or so and make a decision. It is a BIG one for me, I do not like change but the company I work for wants me to go. I love diving and flying and if I can do both, hell why not (^^)

I’m still a little nervous I do not know what the crime is like there and looking on the net I didn’t find too many houses for sale. I might start there in the next 3 months and then would need a place to hanger my baby. This is most probably my biggest fear, hanger costs, up here it is pretty cheap R600 pm. Would I get similar there :?: I just don’t know.

Well as I said it just about a done deal, Ill take the missus there for a weekend within the next month or so and if she gives the thumbs up- PMB here I come (^^) (^^)

Thanks for the positive replies guys, I promise you, you have no idea how much it is appreciated

Cheers Sanna

If James can give you a hangar spot, you wont regret it. He has the best privat runway, without exception, in the country.
Your decision to move down would be a good one. Easy flight to us here at Munster. South Coast.

Had to have my say.

Good luck

Hi San,

Won't find a better runway or nicer people than at Eva's. !!!!

Sadly, I've had my last cup of coffee there. :(

Sheesh guys it will not be easy to say cheers to JHB but I have to health quality of life and not to mention oppertunities ($$) But 99% there is still 99% to go. I have signed on the dotted line but with the understanding that the missus and kids buy in. There is one or two other issues as well but those are fixable, the family is the important one (-)

I'm sure Maritzburg has the most sports club /school squash courts, cricket pitches and hockey fields- including astro per city capita in the country.
