Good day,
I am fairly new to the aviation community and would like to know how the process works for becoming an AP.
* What are the requirements?
* Any specific courses and exams?
* Who are the relevant contact person/s that I should speak to?
I appreciate your input.
Regards
Jacques

Re: AP Criteria
You have to have build your own plane, be an AME or ex AME or have worked for more than 24 months at a aviation facility under mentorship of an AP or AME. If you qualify you then apply to the technical commitee for approval, they then decide if you are eligible to write the exams and which ones. You then have to write all the exams relevant to the categories of planes you want to AP, write the law, as well as the Aeroclub MOP relevant to AP's. Read part 66 sub part 10 in the current law or part 66 sub part 4 in the new law from 1 august 2012

Re: AP Criteria
Hi KFA,
thanks for the info. It sounds like a mouth full, but so be it.
I am in the process of building my own aircraft and more will follow soon. Does a person's technical qualification/s also play a role?

Re: AP Criteria
Not unless it is aviation related. Start by studying AC 43 as well as the airplane mechanic handbook. I think you will find them on the FAA website

....AND obtained an ATF for it.KFA wrote:You have to have build your own plane,
Also, go to the RAASA website, click the link on the left side "AP & Technical" then on the new page scroll down and in the middle of the page click the link "Initial Application For Approved Person Certificate". You'll find a lot of detail there
Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two
