Pegasus Quantum 912

Postby Big-D » Mon Apr 24, 2006 1:34 pm

I flew one this weekend and just have to share the experience with you guys (and girls)
For the record, before the Quantum I had only piloted 4 different trikes in my life (3 Safari 582's and a Russian side by side Antenoff I think it is called.

A trike is a trike right? Wrong

Went to visit my ex-instructor on their private strip Saturday, and what do I see in the hanger.....2 Pegasus Quantum's and a Pegasus Quick. Man, talk about beautiful machines. Next thing instructor asks me "Wanna take her for a spin?" - Is the pope a Roman Catholic? YES!!

Taking off in the Quantum was different already - Usually I hold bar forward 4 fingers from profile tube until she lifts - Instructor in the back seat tells me no, wait until reaching flying speed and rotate, so I do and take off felt pretty much the same as my Safari besides having a bit more lift. Next thing I check the airspeed indicator and hands off this bird flies 65mph  Pull the bar in ever so slightly and she jumps to 80mph  :D :D

I proceeded to do a few turns and then the reality hit me - It feels like this trike has power steering and it is just sooo smooth in the turns. The weather was not great and I tell you a hardly felt a bump (I landed my Safari 10minutes before and was feeling a lot of bumbs!)

We climbed to about 1500ft AGL and instructor says take you foot off the gas Dave and push the bar right up against the front profile tube - So I think OK he wants to show me the stall recovery and I take my foot off push the bar right forward and wait.....and wait......and wait.... - No stall  This bird just kept gliding along and would not stall - Unbelievable stuff.

I now know why people spend fortunes on trikes, because comparing this Quantum to my Safari is like comparing a 1984 Datsun bakkie to a Merc SLK 500

One day when I am big.......the SLK of trikes will be mine :D

Cheers

Hi Big D,

I did my intro flight on a Quantum. The instructor told me it is the Rolls Royce of Trikes.

Eish, but if the bucks for a Rolls or Merc SLK 500 are not there, is big problem! A Datsun bakkie will have to do.

Regards,
Arnulf

Ah Fawgie knows his cars :D I should be  seeing that I work in the motor industry and we sell Mercedes

To put it in perspective then:

Aerotrike Safari: Toyota Corolla (1400 Datsun is overdoing it a little)
Pegasus Quantum: Merc SLK350
Demon's GT450: Merc SLK55

:D

Better idea, I'll sell you my SLK350...It's far too small...I can fit two kids on the front seat, but my softness refuses to travel in the boot....

No bullshit mate. Made in the Ukraine. Is a side by side trike made by Antenoff and imported by Jenya Zozulya (The wing wizard). I confirmed with him this morning that it is produced by Antenof, and yes I have flown it. It looks weird but flies like a dream

Cheers
