DBP is a wreck with a perfectly good engine. (582 with 385hrs now) All avionics, fuel tank, seats, paniers and wheels are ok. Every bit of steel and tubing, as well as the wing is stuffed. Even the Strobe light/landing light made it!
Option 1: (the quickest and easiest) We sell the wreck, and engine, and put the money towards another Aquilla of similar age. A lot of nice planes at good prices on the market at the moment.
Option 2: We keep the engine, and look for a timex plane in decent condition (Some really dusty planes lying at ML!
) and plonk our 582 in there. This will probably be the cheapest option in my opinion.Option 3: We rebuild DBP slowly. Sourcing parts from all over the place over the next few months.
There are quite a few bits and pieces lying in many hangers that can be utilised. I was passionate about this but there are so many unknowns and hidden costs here, as much as my heart wants to do it, I just dont believe it is viable. The cost using new parts from solowings would be close to R90K, including a new wing sail, but then we would basically have a brand new airframe and wing.Give us some advice and thoughts please guys.... some of you have been in exactly the same type of position before.
I say " Keep it simple " ... and cheap as possible. To rebuild will cost to much and will take to long ! There are a good couple of trikes for sale and im sure that you could get a bargain somewhere!
