Hi aviators, are any of you guys using a VXA220 through the headset cables supplied, if so what do you think of the set up
i.e audio quality , ease of use etc etc.I am toying with the idea of back up in my LSA and the Vertex 'looks ' like a simple system one can easily plug in and go.
Would appreciate feedback from any Vertex users

Its a no brainer, the VXA220 is probably better than the radio its backing up. For trike usage without question... no better radio available. Hitch it to a Vee rabbit antenna and you will achieve at least 250 kms tx.

Go for it, but it will need a mic amp if used with a GA headset.

Paul, I actually need that cable that screws on top into the vertex 220 and runs down into the Air magic intercom box.
In the middle of the cable is a second screw on/off connection that enables you to quickly unplug the handheld from the intercom.
Can i perhaps get that cable from you?

Thats the CT96 and we make the joint to allow the unscrew function, eish they are expensive and come with the Vertex radios...So beach bum old chap guard it !

Beach Bum, I dont think so, you should try it first, ensure the STLV is not set high as this will blast your ears. If you are content to do some soldering work I will sell you a suitable mic amp board in Grumpys advisory ZULU1 currency..

We make these in the hundreds and are used with a VXA 220 for the mines in the DRC, the ground crew have our headsets with a PTT on the cup and this takes a full rotor wash of a Squirrel. If you see this months African Pilot the Mountain club use a similar device.
Or we can supply the real deal back up headset that folds up...have been considering making these for a while.

Its not quite a plug and play project as headsets are all different..

Thanks Paul, guess what your saying is hook one up and try it first befor getting involved with the mic amp set up , never know ,in the enclosed foxbat cockpit it just may work. By the way please educate me , your reference to STLV is ???
