Best Routing: Rhino - Krugersdorp

Postby Pat Two » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:24 pm

Hi All..

Please can anyone help?

I am looking to fly from Rhino to Krugersdorp and back on the weekend. What is the best / most direct routing?

Pineded / "Skirting" FALA and overhead to FAKR..? That would involve a lot of flying over built up areas (might be looking for trouble?)

Going the long way around (Rhino - North of WB - Harties - FAKR) Would take a lot longer. In my case I'd like to get the shortest from A-B.

Looking at taking a Jabi 2 seater..
Any tips?
Thanks!

Go Pinedene and then ask Lanseria for a low level routing through their CTR south of the N14. You can then exit west of LA and pop over the ridge to Krugersdporp.

The Lanseria tower is very accommodating and that area is not that built up.

Why not give them a call on 011 701 3262 and talk to them.

Go via pinedene route and then route north of FALA CTR is a nice option, nice and scenic, stay below 6500, don't join FAKR from the North. Skirt the CTR until East of KR and join overhead from the South East, only built up the last few miles. Or stay a few miles north of the circuit and join from the grain silos that are to the west of KR, then you are over open ground the whole way.

The new pinedene route puts you a bit further to the north and not at the shell garages on the N1

Go straight following the Magalies ridge and past just south of Wonderboom to Harties. Took me less than 20min in the Pegasus and Wonderboom will accommodate you.

Just remember to join from the Silos side like Weedy said. They get rather (**) if you join any other way.

Enjoy

Here is a picture of FAKR's joining procedures. Bear in mind that it is an 800ft circuit (6300ft MSL) because it is on the approach to FALA. That's why people get techy when you bust the rules!
