Moderator Rules

Postby DarkHelmet » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:05 pm

Ladies and Gentleman

Recent events dictate we lay down some rules for moderators. Lets keep it in the spirit of the forum. this is a Global Sticky and I urge all members to participate,

Let us keep the thread clean so we build the list and incorporate all suggestions. In the spirit of participation I urge Mods to edit this here post and include suggestions from members. Mod, If you incorporate a members reply please edit their post and add at the end: ******* Included in rules, please delete your own post******* I urge EVERYONE to participate, MODS, you need to work here and build on this. Only the MEMBER is allowed to delete their own post on this thread once they are happy with the inclusion into the rules.

Feel free to start separate threads if you feel more discussion is needed:

I start with:

1. Never delete posts by registered members, moderate for foul language or suggestions of unsafe behaviour, if you do not agree with someone's post contact a fellow moderator/site admin for advice first and ask them if moderation is needed.
2. Blatant spam - "Buy viagra @ R10" Delete (and mail me the link also mail Gyronaut)

Mods feel free to bold, italic and edit this but first reply if you need to change any of the above and have another mod do it so we have 2 people concur, then delete your OWN reply once it is incorporated in the rules ;)

Thanks Gyronut ;)

Let's keep this in the spirit of the forum, the onus to keep this thread clean is on each individual poster. When you feel your post becomes irrelevant to the topic or it is included in the rules delete it ;) ( let it stay for a week to get everyone's input at least)

Censorship
1. Blank out swearwords like f%$k etc (the onus is on the member to censor themselves, you are just a dick when you say fuck on a public forum)

***EDIT by DH - did I just do that?****

Recklessness
1. Do not post instructions on how to behave recklessly, if mods deem instructions reckless PM the member posting, engage in conversation

Posts can be reported, some of you have reported posts but they were not deemed moderable by mods, that is why they are still not closed. Review the posts you reported and mail admin@ the site if you still feel it needs moderation

**** EDIT by DH - Fellow admins, if you concur please incorporate this in the rules and summarily delete this post by my own request***

Mods, Bottom right of the screen there is "Quick Mod Tools" Options, use it to split things off and merge to different forums. Make a new post with your own title like "DH playing with mod tools" Reply, to your own post.

We are all volunteers, none of us have the time to train one another, use the forum to play

***DH Rule**** (aka incorporate and delete this post if you agree, if someone does not agree engage in a NEW POST, in Hangar Talk and delete my post here), this rule applies to everyone of my previous posts in this thread ;)

I am ranting but recent events requiring admin interference is just not acceptable, it has taken me a long time to compose my responses to various issues on the site.

We are here to fly, to fly safe and to have fun! Recent rants and raves have not been fun!

Boys and girls, get back in your boxes and behave like adults...

Respect the opinions, feelings, sensitivities, maturity and age of fellow readers.

Always think to yourself: "Do I want my friends, wife, husband, daughter, son, mother, father, grandfather, grandma (insert more people here) to see this?"

If the answer is yes to all the above, by all means post it!

Same goes for comments on such pics, if you feel these are what you do not want your nearest and dearest to see, approach the poster in private and engage a conversation to ask the poster to remove the offending material themselves. Moderation is Gestapo behavior. Each individual here needs to moderate themselves.

The Gestapo was ousted in 1945! The Spanish Inquisition only lives in Monty Python flicks...

Admins and mods try to have lives, we are also people, we do not need to be burdened with issues that offend you. Take it up with the offender. If there is an unsatisfactory outcome take it up with admin@ the site in an email and we will look at it when we have time.

Private messages ARE PRIVATE! Reply in private, post in private. DO NOT BRING THEM to the public.... If you have a problem with someone sending you excessive PMs, do not repost it to the admins, just block/ignore the message. The tools are there! Just look for it, you can ignore people! REALLY - I KNOW it is there - (someone please post how... I am just too furious at present to waste my time on it)

Can we fligh yet?

Feel free to promote a cause but do not get upset if no-one supports it, post once, let it be, do not bump it let it run its course, if someone thinks it valid, bump it with a thank you! Let it be your only response, don't nag!

Agree with all DH has said

BBM and I were fortunate to have had a 2 hour training session at the Dros with DH when we became mods (OK 1 hour training, 1 hour dinking beer (^^) )

I agree that Mods are not there to delete posts unless it promotes dangerous flying, is blaspfemous or in very bad taste

We have never had problems in the past, lets keep it that way - Most problems can be sorted with a pm to someone you don't agree with, most guys here have very good intentions and sometimes post the wrong thing by accident more than what there is malice intended

In many cases - no. But without site T&Cs what are mods going to mod? It would be like having the police - but no documented laws.
